I agree with Sandy. There are many, many medications, supplements, vitamins, herbs, etc. that cause sensitivity to the sun. You may want to check that out before you head out in the sun for longer periods of time.

Since all we get in the desert is sun, I apply sunscreen like crazy. The area on my chest gets sun burned regardless. For some reason that area is most sensitive to the sun and I have had horrible sunburns, sun poisoning, etc. there. What I now do is apply sunscreen to that area far more often, like every 15 to 20 minutes or so.

As for the nerve bites, could they be related to being in the heat? Are they starting to get better after being in the cooler air for 24 hours? Sometimes it takes several hours (up to 24) to get over the effects of being in the sun/heat.

How are you doing today?

I am a melanoma survivor so believe me I have had plenty of sunscreens and never burned with any.

I am allergic tho to Avon's sunscreen for children so I stay away with children's sunscreens, I have no idea what might be the different ingredient.

I also got rash and hives from a sunscreen I used in Florida but don't remember the brand. I didn't put the two together until a doctor visit when I got home to Michigan and saw the doctor.

A--HAAA I think Sassy may be on to this. I didnt have much choice at the grocery store, so I bought the children's 50spa and I did really burn where I applied it and NOT where I did not apply it...duh??

Yes its patches on my face AND my chest is RED !! AS I said, it doesn't hurt. Thank god.

The nerve "bites" were noticed more when the bugs came out but its NOT bites as I thought. Its a sudden PAINFUL short acting bite-like feeling.

I think its nerves....LOL

Jan
But thanks again for trying to help... you guys ROCK!!

LOL Jan. I was wondering why was her son hitting her while she was driving. The little brat. LOL.

How are you doing today? Are you still having the nerve bites? I get them too but only in one place - ankle about the top of my foot. I stopped looking for bugs on there long ago. Then last week, I felt it and guess what? A ant bit me. LOL

Thumbs up Some Relief!!!

I realized these lightening strikes weren't happening until I walked into an air conditioned room and removed my shirt. The fresh air was like walking into a sewing. contest. After an hour or two of "man-crying" I was desperate for a solution. I jumped in the shower, turned up the heat and instantly the pains subsided. I believe they are damaged nerve endings either healing or drying out...either way the hot water provided some relief. When the hot water started to cool I hopped out, turned down the AC, put on a scratch y shirt and laid in bed. Anytime it started to act up I would rub around a bit in the scratch shirt and the stings would stop. Im actually suffering from it as Im writing this post. Im hopeful this will help someone the next time they experience this awful sunburn sensation. It no medical remedy....but definitely provides some relief!

I am photosensitive big time. I cannot use a sunscreen above 15. So my main defense against the sun is Solumbra cloth clothing and/or thick dense clothing when it's cold enough to wear the thick things. I have a wardrobe of Solumbra cloth clothing from Sun Precautions. I am very sensitive to some fabrics. Ordinarily a synthetic like Solumbra would bother me. But it doesn't. I usually wear a t-shirt under it, however, so I won't have to keep washing the shirts if a sweat. I have wide brim hats which I wear with an additional Solumbra scarf around my head to protect the areas not covered by the brim. I wear shirts, pants, skirts in Solumbra, and either Solumbra gloves or very thick dark gloves when driving. This is an obvious solution but people resist it because they think the Solumbra cloth is expensive or not attractive. Sun Precaution clothing IS attractive, although you may have to return a few things for exchanges if they do not suit your body type of color type.
I have found them so satisfactory that I don't even try the other brands which say they have SPF clothing, because why fuss with something that works?

My favorite hats are the roll-brims, which come in many colors and have 4 inch brims. I may try a 6-inch brim, although that seems like a really big hat, but they are attractive and I've had many compliments. People think I'm odd because I'm covered up by they are used to me now. Anyone with any sense in our dry sunny climate wears hats ANY time they go out, whether or not they are sun sensitive.

I just returned from five days in Jamaica and I have a sun rash. I have had it before but I faithfully used an SPF 70 product this time and tried to stay out of the direct sun.

We will need to go to a different area where there is more protection with cabanas each day. I also have huge mosquito and/or bug bites because I am allergic to shellfish and the sand-crabs cause a reaction when they bite me.

But the vacation was great otherwise.
