I just had my second bout with fire in less that 24 hours! I'm not even camping.
The candle thing was my fault, but I swear, the plastic lid on my boiling pot jumped out and dove onto the hot burner! So, genius that I am, I go for the, "quick, flip-it-off-with-my-finger" maneuver, only to recall that molten plastic tends to be sticky... and hot! Crap, my next job is going to be to figure out how to get the burned plastic off of the glass stove top. And the counter. And the cabinet door. Anyone need a condo? I wonder who's more dangerous around here, me or Dad?

What were you doing with a plastic lid on the boiling pot? Explain that first and maybe, just maybe, I can come up with a way to get the molten plastic off you surfaces!
You idiot! ![]()

I have about every solvent known to human kind, I just don't want to damage the surface(s).
I'll try a razor on the glass first so I don't wreck the burner outlines. The counter may be a little trickier, it's formica. I do have a Teflon scraper, but I'm not sure that will get under it well enough. We'll see.

Now you know why I only use the Microwave now and I keep all children and pets far far away when I'm nuking..
![]() ![]() I'm afraid to let you handle dangerous chemicals to get the plastic off now....just paint a rose with stems it and work around it. ![]()

Check this out - I love barkeepers friend - it's the only thing that keeps me from putting a hammer through this stupid new stovetop. "Easy to clean!" they told me. Lying snakes! For the counter - it's worth a shot. http://ask.metafilter.com/58169/Clea...melted-plastic I claim no liability for any bad reactions, damage, fumes, etc. If anything bad happens, blame Cheryl. |

Well, I recently read what to use, but do you think this brain of mine could come up with it. Glass cleaner was what eventually arrived front and center. So, then I googled and first answer was nail polish remover.
I've not tried either, but try on less obvious surface in case of damage appearing, have a towel for quick removal. I wish you lots of luck and please, be carefuler. Beth |
