Due to nerve damage from a spinal cord injury, only one of my saliva glands is still working - barely. My mouth makes the Sahara look like a tropical rain forest. It makes it difficult to swallow, talk and keep my teeth healthy.

I use the toothpaste/mouthwash the others have mentioned. I also use an artificial saliva spray. Ask your pharmacist about it. It's often used by folks whose saliva glands were destroyed by mouth cancer.

I do use an artificial saliva spray, and find that it helps somewhat...but the effect doesn't last.

I also use a vaseline-based ointment that comes in a tube, and specifically helps with my dry, cracked lips.

I need something that will get me through the night with longer intervals between treatments.

It's been a while since I tried one of those sprays but I had the impression that the spray could be used as needed.

I'm using the moisturizing gel now, and can use it as often as I need to. For me that's usually about 3-5 times in 24 hours.

It's a nuisance but it does help.
