I found this site under the National MS society page. http://www.nchpad.org/14weeks/index.php
I have started a profile with them to see what it's all about but they make you wait a week before they give you any videos ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It really hasn't seemed fair to me that my DH and DSD can get workout programs from the web for free covering 8/12/16 weeks to get in shape and I either can't or I'm not sure if I can do 99% of the exercises they're given to do. (Run a mile, do 30 crunches, 20 push-ups....) I can't run, can't do crunches with my back, and forget push-ups with my shoulder, so I'm really happy to have found a site that just might solve for all that. Something that isn't going to tell me I can lose my weight by doing 30 mins of cross-training a day, when walking 2 blocks is my level limit.

Well, wasn't the best program for me at least. It had a few mild stretching exercises but wanted to focus more on strengthening exercises... Not a good thing for me at least since my lesion seems to be interfering with the signal to relax the muscles after contracting them. Which honestly is probably why PT doesn't work well for me.
![]() My friend in England though was able to send me a disk of exercises from their MS society. Again a lot of strengthening exercises and nothing wowing for stretches, just the well known basics learned in every gym class but not too bad of set. Very few exercises but focused on not taxing the body and going for some 6 pack beach bod, but just a basic overall get up (or sit) and move the body. No gear needed aside from maybe some exercise bands (though the exercises can be done with nothing but gravity as resistance) and a towel. Now this seems like something I can do, and stick with on a daily basis even if my initial reps aren't nearly as high as the recommended 8 to start... Heck I'm lucky if I can do 4 ![]() I also really like the mister motivation exercises on YouTube. He's a trip to watch, but really great. I need to find the link for him to share it.

Don't have PT here at the home anymore. Too weak and arthritic now.
I do as much as I'm able. Bed exercises are just not as fruitful as floor exercises. I hate my life now. Sorry to be a downer, but nursing home life is not for me. Some can learn to enjoy it and maybe I can, but not yet. I'm too young for This...LOL. Some have been living here for over 20 years and are younger than I am. Pray for my strength please.:grouphug

Hi Starznight,
Quote:
I do weight training. I have a 4 station weight machine in my home. I love weight training but my muscles don't relax so after I'm done working out I do gentle stretching exercises to help the muscles relax (this was recommended by my Physical Therapist). I also use a muscle relaxer (Baclofen) which has helped my muscles to relax easier than when I wasn't using it. Quote:

Yes, I take 3-4 different muscle relaxers and 1 or 2 anti-convulsants, can't remember all the classifications of the meds at this point
![]() I'm considering just stopping the meds at this point... Slowly and under doctor supervision of course, but ready to tell them that I'm done. I'm already at the end of the line for what they can prescribe me, baclofen is a distant memory, as is flexeril, robaxin and several others. Oh well, such is life.
