http://www.agingbraincare.org/upload...legal_size.pdf I noticed Amantadine is on the list in column 2, a lot of us may have been prescribed it? " The scientists, whose work has been published in the journal JAMA Neurology, say drugs that have a strong "anticholinergic effect" shrink the brain and decrease brain metabolism. This is not a new finding: earlier research has found a link between anticholinergic drugs and cognitive impairment among older adults. A 2013 study concluded that taking one of these drugs for only two months causes memory problems in older people. "

I tried Amantadine for awhile and my nerves were terrible. My whole body was tight. I was clenching my fists all the time, my jaws were so tired because of clenching them. I quickly went off of it.

Amantadine was the first thing that doctors prescribed for me to relieve fatigue, it didn't help.
If you have cognitive problems from MS? A medication that may make them worse doesn't sound like a good plan?

Wow! I'm currently taking or have taken meds that are found at all the different levels. I took Robaxin for years and that has a score of 3, Zyrtec is the only allergy medication I'm not allergic to, but it's also the least effective one, but I've taken that. Flexeril, Xanax... Tergotol is one I'm currently on with a score of 2. No wonder sometimes it feels like if I didn't have half a mind I would have any mind at all...
![]() But honestly I'll take the cognitive defects over muscles spasms any day of the week. Frustration and annoyance about not remember the past 5 minutes seems preferable to the pain I'd be in without my meds. But it's still great to know the risk, and to be able to make an educated gamble.
