I cannot use legs except to stand by toilet and have husband move my feet - am wearing ay least 7 years old slippers that the suede on sole is all worn off - also have lymphedema so feet swell even with tight leg wraps - last night had to call EMTs because I fell because feet wouldn't move - had shoes on with rubber soles - again HELP !!

Hi KarenMarie,
What a shame to be falling on account of the wrong shoes. I have a similar problem just now--had a fall the other day for no known reason except that the elastic on the slippers I was wearing may have loosened up to the point where the slippers are a wobbly fit. I'm ordering a different type of slippers. As I was doing that, I came across an article that might be helpful though I'm not sure what you're looking for. Most people want nongrip soles but it sounds as if that's not what you want at all--? In any case, if you look in the "Gifts for Daily Living" section of this article (in Brain & Life), you might find one of the links useful. https://www.brainandlife.org/article...ic-conditions/

Personally I would Never count on slippers, I need support and I don't have MS but instability from a hip replacement. It took some yrs but I finally found a shoe for me, but it's got a rubber bottom and not good for sliding. I don't want to slide and need a firm support to be stable.

I agree with you that slippers are bad news! The diabetes class instructor warned us not to go around in slippers, and I don't wear them except when I'm not yet dressed. When I fell, I hadn't yet got dressed for the day and was slogging around in the early morning in a robe and slippers. Big mistake.

I keep my shoes at my bedside and put them on during night to go to bathroom. I'm in big trouble if I should fall. So I go slowly and don't wait for last minute for the bathroom...Hurrying is the worst thing for us to do. I have not owned slippers in many years.
