I mean if I had ON last month and my vision is still not back to how it was before could I still get a DX of ON or is it too late?
Last month (some time the 1st week of Jan) when my left eye had the broken blood vessel I had sudden vision loss, pain moving my eye. I went to the ER and the Dr spent 2 minutes with me and told me I was fine. I didn't know much about ON so I didn't ask him about it. I didn't notices any color difference in my eyes until today. Everything is darker with my left eye. If I cover my left eye and look with just my right I really see a difference, I didn't try this before, I had just looked at things with both eyes and than just covering the right one (my good eye). Never thought about covering the bad eye and looking. Using both eyes seams to be right in the middle of what I see when covering each eye. Like looking at this page with both eyes the boxes look very light blue and there is a white back ground, covering the good eye, the boxes are very light gray with a cream back ground, than covering the bad eye the boxes are very very light blue with a bright white back ground. Oh and I feel like there is a bight light almost always shining in my left eye.

Get a red object, look at it with one eye and then the other...do you see a marked difference in the red? If you have not seen an Optho/Neuro yet, that's a good place to start for the dx of ON.
Someone here who has had ON could add more to this.... FWIW, I did not get a dx of ON, even with the color change. More of a base line for me.

OK, found a red tee-shirt, both eyes it just red, bad eye covered it's bright red, good eye covered it's almost brick red. ![]() I told my neuro about my eye and he looked at both of them with just a little flash light and said the pupils looked fine. ER Dr did and said the same. But I didn't tell ether one about the color difference because I didn't know I had one until now but DID tell them both about the vision loss. ![]()

Opthomologist Neurologists will conduct many tests and also dialate your eyes. He will spend alot of time examining, looking deep inside, not just a quick scan in a minute or two.
I think I heard that with ON the red will begin to turn gray (???? I THINK).... so brick red...is that a graying you see? Your eyes are probably the most important things....so this is one doctor, IMHO, that is worth a visit. Plus...he's also a neurologist...there's that second opinion! Take your MRI with you! (Brain) Really, the important thing in my opinion, is to check everything out with specialists. Going to a regular eye doctor won't do what you need to have done. Good luck

An opthamologist or neuropthamologist should be able to see any previous damage that was done if you have had ON. Even if your vision returns completely, there is usually still evidence of damage no matter how long ago it was.

Red doesnt always get grayed out. It did gray out for me with my first case of ON (left eye), but apparently my second case of ON (right eye) has done some other weirdness.
In the second case of ON, red looked a lot lighter than it should have. Not as vivid as it should have been. My opthalmologist said that he bet if I had an MRI the optic nerve would be showing an obvious case of ON in the right side. (not always true, I had a flaming case of ON in the left eye the year before and the MRI didnt see it) |

i still think you should see an opthamologist.
any vision problems should be checked out further. if you've had or con't to have an inflammed optic nerve (ON) the dr should be able to tell. however, even if it's not ON that fact that you have visual disturbances is worthy of a checkup by an eye dr, IMHO.

Thank all so much, I guess I'll be trying to find an opthamologist tomorrow.

well my first bout of ON was in march 06,and I got a dx of ON in november of 06.
My ON is blind spots in my visual field. And before the blind spots appear I have like a shimmering light in the spot that is going to go blind. Its weird too. I also have little floaters that go from one side of my visual field to the other. I have the eye pain aswell alot. |

I vote that you should see an opthalmologist ASAP!
My ON lasted about 10 months before I was treated with IVSM. It didn't improve until I took the medicine. My vision was so bad by the time I got to the neuro-opthalmologist, that I could do some of the tests with my right eye...because I literally couldn't see out of that eye! I was legally blind in my right eye. And still, the optic nerve didn't look pale. I was seeing my opthalmologist, the neuro-opth. and a retinalogist (both at Stanford University). They all just kept hemming and hawwing until the LP showed o-bands. Then everyone said "MS". They all told me that with the first round of ON, it's not uncommon for the optic nerve NOT to look pale.
