I finally got up the courage to find me a new dentist last december.

I hadnt seen a dentist since 2003. The dentist that I'd been seeing since childhood had a hissy fit one day. He was going to fix a bad filling, and I have really atypical reactions to novocaine (it takes forever to work, and doesnt last very long for me) He kept wanting to start drilling before it had kicked in, and got ****** when I told him I wasnt numb yet and to wait a few minutes. He got mad, tossed the drill, and the little mirror thing across the room into the wall, started cussing and told me to reschedule the %$#&ing appointment and come back.

I looked at the dental tech, she looked at me, and I said %$#& that! and said that I'd never be coming back to that office as a patient.

I actually got my mom to switch dentists last month to my new dentist. The old dentist ignored my mom when she said she had something wrong with one of her teeth. He took xrays, said there wasnt anything wrong and sent her home. I took her to my new dentist and they found a raging infection in her tooth. She had to have a root canal.

I need to get a root canal or two done, just need to make the appointment for that. (big dentalphone here too!) My new dentist said she's going to take all my amalgams out since they're old, cracked and have "high mercury content" according to her. The amalgams are actually making my teeth split, so they do need to be replaced soon.

I just have so many metal fillings in my teeth, that it's going to be a big job...and she wants to do it all in one day so that she can get the amalgam out all at once and not subject me to the possibility of mercury exposure for very long.

After all that work is done, I'm going to get some porcelain veneers put on because I was born with soft teeth and all the pretty white stuff has either been scraped off by an overeager dentist or it just wore off on it's own. My teeth are icky looking. I would like to have the pretty white teeth at least once in my life.

Oh, and I'll probably get my lower front teeth straightened with Invisalign (kind of like clear braces) The rest of my teeth are perfectly straight (the one good thing about my teeth)

I just have to get up to courage to sit thru all of that dental work. I hate dentists, and it's all because my very first dentist was a quack. I can remember that putz tying me down to the dentist chair to work on me. (parents never went into the room with me) He also put metal bite guards in my mouth to keep my mouth open. I dont remember being a squirmy, biting child back then. I get the feeling he did that to all four year olds.

I'm pretty sure that dentist is the reason that I'm terrified of going to the dentist.

CRAIG I am so happy that all went well for you. I felt the same as you.

didn't go to the dentist is years, until I had no choice the pain made me go.
1 root canal and crown later I was shocked at the modern equip.
that they have today. So now I go every six months for a cleaning and check-up.

That's a very good question and when I asked the dentist he said that with age the gums can recead from the teeth and that is what has happened to the molar. Nothing serious and he recommended Sensadine toothpaste and that should take care of it.

All that worry about a big cavity or even a cracked tooth and requiring a crown all for nothing.

As usual, the fear outweighed the reality.
