I have felt kind of off for about 2 or 3 days.

I had dental work on wednesday, and I think it has something to do with feeling sick.

I had to have 3 fillings replaced because the fillings were actually cracking my teeth. (I actually have to have 12 fillings replaced, but I'm just not up to doing that all at once) I dont think the amalgam they removed has much to do with why I feel sick. I think I'm sick because when the dentist got the filling drilled out, there was infection inside a couple of the teeth.

I think somehow, that infection got into my system and is what is making me feel sick now.

My right foot is numb, mostly on the right side of the foot (pinky toe and the toe next to it are the most numb) The numbness runs up the outside of my leg. It feels like half my leg is numb and tingly. This could also be being caused because I have pain in my tailbone. The neuro said that I could actually have a pinched nerve that's causing the numbness and that it might not be an MS issue at all.

I called my neuro and told him what was going on. He suggested that I call my regular doctor and get an antibiotic. So I did, and the nurse got snippy and told me to call the dentist. I told her I was doing what the neuro told me to do. So, I at least made an appointment to have my tailbone examined (ohyay, just what I wanted to do..show my butt to my doctor...great, monday is going to be an exciting day for me)

I ended up calling my dentist (who is not in the office today) and asked for an antibiotic. I'm waiting for the pharmacy to tell me it's ready.

I just feel nasty and want to whine and complain about it to someone.

Last night, I think I had the worst fatigue sensation I've had in awhile. All I did was go to Super Target with my parents to grocery shop. I still feel exhausted this morning.

I can empathise Erin. Although I'm just buggy with laryngitis and a sore throat, I certainly understand how rotten we all feel when we're a bit off color.

You hit the nail right on the head when you said MS sucks, but whenever I think that, I always remember what SallyC has in her signature.


That always brings the inevitable smile to my face.

I'm just recovering from a tooth infection/extraction, and agree that things can get stirred up . . . especially due to infection. I'm surprised he didn't give you antibiotics right on the spot (my dental specialist did). It's still taken about 3 weeks to start to feel human again.

I dont think the dentist (she's a she) realized that infections can cause flares and exacerbations in MS. I've noticed a lot of doctors dont exactly understand what MS is and does to people. (like they skipped over that chapter in the Chronic Conditions chapter in their Sick People Textbook.

I got myself a nice bottle of Cephalexin (sp?) I'm a bit miffed that I have to take it FOUR TIMES A DAY!! (eek!) I'm more used to doing the 2 times a day, but I guess maybe she knows what kinds of nastiness lurks inside our teeth and there must be some rule or direction that she has to follow if someone gets their system infected from the goo that's inside our teeth. At least I wont have to take it long, it's 28 pills, so I only have to take it for 7 days. I just hope it doesnt cause me insomnia.

It's causing a headache right now.

I may be a little icky right now, but I'm in a really good mood right now. My brother-in-law got his present I sent him and loved it.

His sewing machine that he had stored with the Air Force got smooshed, and I got my dad to help me replace it for him, (early birthday present) and we got him a much better machine than he had. So, I feel like Santa Claus right now. All excited that he liked his present.

So sorry you're feeling bad..I had to re-read your post a couple times, though..Couldn't quite figure out how we went from dentist pain to your regular doctor for antibiotics & an appointment to check on you tailbone..LOL..I should NEVER try figuring out anything over one sentence long after midnight..

yeah, I wasnt very clear earlier...wasnt feeling all that great.

There is actually no dental pain, well, not in the teeth that were fixed. The next batch of teeth to get fixed occasionally fire up and bug me, but that's not what I was talking about earlier.

When the dentist drilled into the teeth she fixed the other day, there was some infection inside the teeth (ewww) and I think a little of it escaped out of my tooth and into my system. Which I think is what's been making me feel a little bit sick, and is why I got some antibiotics from the dentist.

My neuro wanted me to get checked out by my regular doctor because of the possibility that the gook from my dental work might have made me sick, but the nurse was being a putz and wouldnt let me make an appointment till monday. Which I may cancel, because I have a theory on why my foot is numb.

The reason why I was going to have to have my tailbone examined is because after I fell in January and messed up my knee, I was sitting down a lot, and when you sit for a long time on a surface like a matress instead of a chair, you can irritate your coccyx (tailbone), and I've been having coccydynia (pain in the tailbone) since January, and I mentioned it to the neuro today, he thought maybe the numbness in my foot was coming from that.

My theory that I just came up with about 5 minutes ago about why my foot is numb is this. One of the side effects of Baclofen is numbness in the hands and feet. I've had a prescription for Baclofen for months, but hadnt been taking it regularly until about a week and a half ago. The numbness had started about 3 to 5 days ago, and got worse on the day I had my dentist visit. I'm wondering if the Baclofen is what is causing it, and it might also be causing some of my insomnia. (I've been taking it at night)

I havent been taking the Baclofen full strenght, but I have a lot of atypical and strong reactions to some medications, so I'm wondering if this could be one of those. So, I'm going to try to not take the Baclofen for a few days and see if my foot wakes up.

I've also been taking Trazodone for insomnia, and one of the side effects of that is numbness in the hands and feet. (geeze, stupid side effects are worse than what I'm taking the drugs for!)

And both drugs also have another side effect that I'm having a problem with, and we'll just say it's a side effect best kept private, but involves the potty.

Hopefully the numb foot is a side effect and not the result of MS Trolls messing with my nerves and dermatones. (a dermatone is the area of skin supplied with afferent nerve fibers by a single posterior spinal root)

The area where I feel numb looks like it's at about the S1 level of the spine on a dermatone diagram, and the numbness follows about the same path as the dermatone on the diagram shows. It goes from about the tailbone, down my hip, down the outside of the right of my right leg, and down into my foot.

It's weird, the numbness in my upper leg is not as strong as the numbness on the outside of my right foot. (I've had thigh numbness since all the numb carp started 2yrs ago, so that numbness may be old numbness from a few years ago) The outside of the right foot corresponds on the diagram to the S1 area. The rest of the leg goes to various places in the lumbar area. I think there's some merit to this theory, so if I keep my doctor's appointment on monday, I'll be asking about it.
