Default Had my visit to MS clinic today for first time

Hi all -- I was nervous a couple of days ago about my visit to the MS clinic and you guys gave great advice. I came in with my list of questions. Plus I also had a list of start and stop dates of meds. and symptoms in case I was too worried to remember the details. I tried deep breathing. The waiting room was a bit traumatizing for my DH who came along. Out of 6 of us waiting I was the only mobile one--everyone else was in a wheelchair or with a walker/rollator thing. He was a bit freaked out as I am not even a year into this whole thing and don't have any obvious symptoms.

Anyhow, the famous doc. has stopped seeing people but a younger doc. working with him saw me. She was awesome. She was reassuring, extremely knowledgeable, NOT an alarmist and seemed like a real genuine person unlike all the other condescending doomsayer %^$&# neuros I have seen. And, she spent a total of 3 hours with us at the first visit. Oh, and she has MS herself!! Interesting, huh?

She recommended that I go on Tysabri because I couldn't tolerate the interferons and copaxone. So the paper work is set in motion. I'm not really nervous. Maybe just a little??

Oh the funny thing is, she initially put up the wrong MRI's of another patient and started going over them with us. These MRI's had spinal lesions and huge cotton ball lesions which I didn't remember having. I almost had a heart attack until my DH pointed out that my name wasn't on the films and it was someone else's name. She was mortified. But I didn't really care--simple mistake. Just having a neurologist who was kind and reassuring rather than scaring the crap out of me (with the right MRI films) made all the difference in the world.

Natalie,
I'm so happy your appt went well! That's what I need, a Neuro that's intelligent, reassuring and isn't a condescending !&!%#@(#. Does your Neuro have a twin in GA by any chance? I can understand you being nervous about trying Tysabri but i'm sure everything will go well for you and vent to us if you need to!! I am really happy for you Natalie.

Your neuro has MS? That IS very interesting, indeed. I think that is definitely in your favor. Keep us posted, K?

Hi Monique -- I wish you could find a good neuro too and that she had a twin in GA. Keep searching because eventually I think you will find a reassuring kind one. I suffered through a few awful ones including one who described my brain as swiss cheese (old story). BUT...this new neuro said my brain definitely did not look like swiss cheese.
