Default Brittle Teeth

Does anyone know if there is a link between MS and brittle teeth?
~Thanks

YES YES YES, my dentist tells me for many reasons yes, first, MS is a disease where your own bodies defense system (T-Cells) attack your body, this makes sense that it causes your teeth to go bad.

Second, EVERY MS med causes tooth decay.

I a facing almost 20K in dental work, I am meeting with people on Thursday to have all my teeth replaced with implants.

Sorry to make your night....

MS drugs; steroids, ACTH, etc. affect your bones. I take calcium w/vit. D daily along with a multi-vitamin.

I too just started brushing with a toothpaste by Colgate the builds enamel hoping that helps with cavities.

Take care.

EDITED to say from '92 to '96 my MS was very active; I tried steroids once and was on ACTH 15 times. On ACTH you can break your femur by just standing. Recently, I had a bone density test (age 46) and it was surprising within the normal range.

There are so many things that can put your teeth at risk.

Soda, medications, dry mouth, lack of oral hygiene, calcium shifts from drugs, or metabolic disorders. its VERY important if you have a disease process going on to seek dental care more often. During chemo I went once a week to the dentist, and he would paint my teeth with a protection gel. I was vomiting so much, the stomach acid was erroding my back teeth. The meds made my mouth so dry that I was seeing decay develope before my eyes! There are many things a dentist can do other than pull your teeth, but you have to show up early to give him a chance.

Now, get brushing!

Default Okay...this TOO makes sense!

You will find noone who brushes (and have my whole life) more often then me... Teeth are so important to me...I always swore I would take such good care, so I wouldn't end up with dentures.

But through the last few years, my teeth have just crumbled and chipped so bad. I've had to get crowns and a bridge. Then the remaining teeth under them don't seem to hold up.... this is another discouraging thing.

I have not yet told my dentist about my ms. I will be making an appointment soon.

Thank you, for helping me on this. Is there ANYTHING left that the MS IS NOT going to ruin????????
