Default My fun er visit...

Been hurting really bad in my back since Saturday was hurting so bad had to leave work early because I was in tears.Came home took some pain med and went to sleep.Sunday morning I wake up and it was so much worse.Go to er and wait and wait 5 hrs later and a urine sample and xray the nurse comes in with some prescriptions I ask her what was wrong with me.She said that the doctor said I had a back sprain. So I ask her why does it burn when I pee.She says I don't know let me go look.Stupid freaking doctor comes in a few minutes later and says you have one hell of a UTI. I was so ****** they almost sent me home without diagnosing the problem.Well he gave me some antibiotics and some hydros but now this morning everytime I wipe there is blood. If it doesn't get any better I am going to my regular doctor.Needless to say it is making all my MS symptoms act up I couldn't even walk yesterday.

I hope you called your regular doc too. I hope you're starting to feel better. Kudos on not getting out of there without all your questions answered.

Good for YOU that you stood up for yourself!! Did they check your kidneys?? But blood in urine is not unusual, tho scary. ITs painful to pee blood or blood clots. Yowzer!!

Whenever I get an UTI, I always ask for a medication that turns your urine organge but it numbs the bladder and it doesnt hurt. Its only a few pills but it helps. NOW I keep them just in case one starts, I have some to take.

Best to you.. get better!!!

Default Azo-Standard

cole,
The over the counter medicine that Jan is speaking of is called AZO-Standard. You can get it at Wal Mart, CVS, Walgreens, just about any drug store carries it. It does indeed numb the urinary tract and makes the urine a bright orange color. It works wonders.
ps. It could stain your panties, so I would not wear any of your "good" panties. LOL
Hope you get to feeling better soon

Sorry your feeling blah and the hospital almost missed your UTI. Please call your regular doc as soon as possible though. My husband had a missed UTI and went into kidney failure and sepsis. He's OK today but please don't wait. Blood in the urine usually means it is reaching your kidneys. Do you have a fever? If you don't then it's most likely blood from the bladder. Most people run a fever when it has gone to the kidneys, but not always. Either way, it is not good to have blood anywhere. My husband also had a bad back ache before all this happened and he thought it was his ms acting up.

One more thing. Have your doctor check the urine culture for sensitivities. It could be the antibiotic your on isn't sensitive to the bacteria you may have. Your regular doctor can give you the correct meds if needed. This would not be the er's fault though since a culture takes three days to complete.

Actually it numbs the entire urinary tract so that you do not feel the burning associated with a UTI.
Yes, it has been over the counter for many years. I was told about it several years ago by my gyn because of a bad UTI and he told me about it.

you've gotten some great advice.
the only thing about masking burning and/or other sx's is that this may also mask sx's you should be telling you dr about.

i always think it's a good idea after any er visit to see your own dr. they can re-evaluate your problem and make sure it's not anything more. and re-evaluate the tx, meds etc.

please make the appt asap. and 2nd what sandy said about the blood.
it could be from kidneys or possible a really irritated bladder. best to get this checked out.

please let us know how you are.
