Default Colposcopy Aug 13

Going to be a full day. Wow. Blood work (routine) for my neurologist. Urine sample for my neurologist. Urine sample for my GP. Colposcopy arranged per my GP as well.

The GP called me today. Wonderful woman! She assured me "The results we got back are extremely common on PAP tests. They'll use vinegar to see if cells turn white, and then send these for testing". Talked about how this may or may not be a problem in 15 to 20 years (I'm 31) and not to worry about it.

So yay, I get to dedicate my morning on the 13th to being picked over. LOL

I'm interested in knowing how this is done in Canada now, since I'll probably have to have one soon too.

Did they give you something to drink 24 hrs prior to the procedure? I didn't have that, but was very well cleaned out (except bleeding) by the time I went in for an emergency colonoscopy. Most people I've talked to recently on the MS forums have said they had to drink something, and that that was the worst part about the procedure now-a-days.

WAY back in the dark ages, they didn't even give a person any meds before. I know in the US anyway, people are put out now, but I don't think that is happening in Canada. Please be advised that you will need at least something to relax you.

It'll probably take me months to get an appointment for one . . . but will be interested in hearing how it goes for you.

Good luck.

Cherie

Cherie--- colposcopy not colonoscopy. Huge difference!

DMP--I had that done recently and it's not bad. Take an Advil or Aleve before you go. That should help. You might have a little bit of cramping, but it shouldn't be horrible. It's over very quickly. They did the colposcopy in , oh, about 15 minutes more or less. They brought me back for cryosurgery. And now i get to go every 4-6 months for a pap smear. Lovely...... as if seeing your OB/GYN doc once yearly isn't enough.

IF you end up getting cryosurgery, take another Advil or Aleve before you go to the doc's. That's not terrible. And again, you might have a little cramping and get a watery discharge for a couple of weeks. Yes, weeks. Blech. Have to wear pads, too. Eeeeww..... (sorry... just something I can't stand).

Love female parts. Sometimes more than others. This is one of the less than other times.

Several years ago, I had the colposcopy (3 days before my wedding!) followed by a LEEP a month or two later. I didn't know enough to be worried, so it was no big deal. I thought it was super cool because I got to see the LEEP on TV while they were doing it (doc was teaching a student). I was right not to worry - no big deal at all. They did the Colposcopy and found some bad cells, did the LEEP and found nothing, and I've been fine ever since. Good luck to you! Mine didn't even hurt a bit!

I didn't mistype it, but the words are so similar so it's understandable. There was another post on here recently if I'm not mistaken about Colonscopy.

No prep for this one, but thank you for the suggestion Gazelle about the Advil etc. before the test. Cramping? Blah! I delt with wickedly horrible cramps for so long before my surgery for endometriosis.

Yes, being a woman is lovely isn't it?

Have a wonderful day dmp! Gee, sounds like some of the days I used to have before my hysterectomy...my gyn and I were good friends. I used to see him often! Too often!

I hope everything comes out ok! I mean turns out ok!

Gazelle gave you some good advice about the advil/aleve.
