OK - is it just me or does anyone else with MS have a very low tolerance for noise?

I am so used to the relative peace and quiet I have most all day while I'm home alone that I'm getting to the point of having no tolerance for noise.

Example - Kevin's girlfriend came over this evening and ate supper with us. No problem. But she is so loud and seems to be constantly making some type of noise. If it's not talking then she's singing or humming. Constantly. And it seems she cannot just walk in the house....she has to sort of flit around like Tinkerbell (jumping and skipping). Not to mention she terrorizes poor Tigger (my little orange kitty). He hears her voice and hightails it under the bed!!

I didn't mean for this to sound like a bashing fest but I feel so bad for feeling like this! She's a sweet girl and I really do love her.....I just have such a low tolerance for noise these days.

Even when I was grocery shopping yesterday the music was so loud that I finally asked the lady at the courtesy desk if the person who was in charge of the concert was hard of hearing. She agreed but said that she had no control over the volume.

I feel like that grouchy old woman that all the kids in the neighborhood are scared of!! And I'm only 47!!! I think it's time for some ear plugs.

I have a low tolerance for outside noise, esp when I'm trying to watch TV or concentrate on something. I really get aggravated when the boy's are watching Football and they just go crazy. Seems like when that's going on, the noise is escalated.

Sowwy, DM......that was the only thing I could think of to compare her to!! She flits around like a ballerina!! Besides, I thought you were a princess!!

I feel bad now that I used her as an example....and I would never say anything to her. I'd never want to hurt her feelings or make her feel unwelcome here. I was such a grouch yesterday!!

I'm sorry that noise bothers so many of you but glad I'm not alone. And DM, I can SO relate to the television noise....seems like they have to have it at a movie theater decibel.

I notice more than two folks talking at same time, I get irritated at the volume, could be me, but noise has bugged me more the last few years.

anyone know why or heard any reason because, I think you will find a fair number of MSers who are bothered by noise. I seem to recall this subject being discussed b4, but I don't recall if there was a given reason, or if anyone had heard any type of explanation.

I have a VERY low tolerance for noise. If I go somewhere and notice the noise is bothering me, I leave. I have even gotten up from tables at a restaurant (before I order anything) just because the music or atmosphere is too loud for me.

It took me quite a while to figure out why I was feeling the way I was in certain stores or environment. Now I know it is the noise and can take myself out of the area so I can feel better. One of the worst places is at my DD's school with all the kids so I limit my time there.

My DD will talk non-stop, hum, sing, play loud music, talk to her guinea pig constantly so I learned to tolerate it pretty well. If I am having a bad day, I tell her to tune it down and luckily she listens.

Definitely a low tolerance for noise here. I'm also not a deep sleeper it seems, so any little noise wakes me up

Yep...very very sensitive to noise here.

I live with my parents, and both of them are becoming hard of hearing. I'm constantly turning their tv's down...constantly asking them to use their "inside voices".

When we go to a restaurant, if there are any small children around (small as in, anyone younger than 16) I can sometimes barely stand it.

Went to a chinese restaurant last night, place was so quiet...until these two women showed up with their kids. The waitress just HAD to seat them directly next to us.

Immediately the four year old starts screaming....the women were saying "oh, isnt he cute?". (I'm holding my ears, wondering if they're bleeding and trying to not be rude and asking them if they could duct tape the kid's mouth shut.

Then the little baby starts to scream (I can excuse babies screaming, but not four year olds) That scream was no where near as irritating and migraine inducing as the older kid.

Isnt four an age where you can ask a kid to not scream?


I dont mind loud music all that much, but loud tv's, loud people, and my mom humming (the off tune humming of the insane) are all noises that make me want to stab myself in the ear with an icepick.

I haven't really figured this one out. I seem to have a low tolerance for some kinds of noises that I never had before. Lots of noises going on at once, like parties *shudder*, where lots of people are talking in different tones and volumes, and there is background music, clinking of dishes, chairs squeeching across the floor, etc.

Sometimes I can't talk on the phone, the voice through the receiver is like an ice pick.

Certain sounds like car horns, small yappy dogs, certain people's voices...aaaaarrrgggh!

I can still turn up the tunes and holler along, but I can't do background music if I'm doing anything that requires thinking.

I'm right there with you! I have a low tolerance for noise and occasionally get the added benefit of hypersensitive hearing which makes everything seem even louder.

The worst for me is kids shrill screams and crying at the top of their lungs. I literally "feel" that noise down my spine and in my nerve endings - hard to explain but very irritating.

Also hate the neighborhood teenagers who cruise down the street trying to be oh so cool with the bass as high as possible so I can feel the vibration inside my house. I dream about placing that stereo where the sun doesn't shine.

I hate loud noises of any type and in fact loud sudden noises actually cause pain in my ear drum.

Things like doors slamming or that TV ad that's always louder than the normal TV program, causes me ear pain. It's like I have supersensitive hearing now, and anything louder than average is just too loud.

It hurts and I don't like it!
