Thanks Joe. I'll be calling tomorrow if this thing looks like it did last night. If the redness finally starts to fade though, I can wait for the specialist. Its on my back (by shoulder) so it's in an annoying spot for sure... if I move the wrong way in bed, I hit it, and OUCH.

Is this one of "those" kind that might erupt? I get that type too.
![]() If so . . . - DON'T poke at it. - in case you get tempted, DON'T poke at it!! - leave it completely alone, except that ointment. Use that faithfully, as prescribed. - After 2 - 3 weeks, start using hot compresses on it, once or twice a day - DON'T poke at it, it will cause it to run and hide underground (till the next time it flares up)! You will know when it's ready to drain and eventually one of the hot compresses will prompt it to. Cherie

Yeah, eruption is what I thought. I'll keep at the ointment and see in a week and a half what's up

I actually called my doctor's office today, she's on vacation of course!
![]() So I called Telecare, and asked the nurse if it would be OK to try and get this thing to drain naturally. I do not have fever with it, but it looks like a volcano, minus the head, about to erupt! ![]() They said definitely fine, hot compresses 3 times daily for 20 minutes. I can handle that. Good thing I'm not heat intolerant when it comes to that stuff.

Did I mention DON'T poke at it?
![]() Don't press on it either. Gentle hot compresses only. It'll still take 2 - 3 weeks all up, I bet. ![]() Cherie

![]() I try not to press on it, but accidents happen, such as, leaning back in my chair and doing the OUCH. I can wait 2-3 weeks for this thing. It's been there for years now =(

Is this a cyst or a boil, laura?? My DS had both. The cyst literally inflamed and was extremely tender to the touch. The Dr's had to drain it.
The boil erupted itself after hot baths and hot compresses. The boil bled like crazy, but went away after it popped. Cherie gave you some great advice esp the DO NOT TOUCH! take care and let us know what happens.
