It's been 10 months now and I'm still dealing with 6th nerve palsy on my left eye. After going through all these tests such as: lumbar puncture (myelin elevated at 5.0) Evoked potential: abnormal in the right eye by a millsecond, foot drop for 4 years, numbness by my right rib cage, and numbness on right thigh areas, thyroid came back with very high and very low. Along with depression, emotional mood swings, anger, sleepy, and the list goes on and on.
But no lesions in the MRI. So 3 doctors "feel" that its mild MS. So one doctor said, "let's start on the MS therapy." I could take Avonex and see what happens he says. No muscle surgery in my eye at the moment because they don't want to risk it going the other way if it is MS. what do I do?????? Already been on predisone IV and made feel good but now I'm feeling blah. Help!! I'm not getting a direct answer from the doctors, they are just guessing. |

Patch, curious have you had a second opinion. I know cost and all stinks but if you havent it might be something to ponder on. As for the nuero's treatment or attempt, I am sorry I can not answer you on what they are doing or what you might do, hopefully someone might have a better answer than mine. hope you get to feeling better soon

Patch,
I would start the Avonex and give it a little time. I would also look into a second opinion about your eye. -Vic |

I agree a second opinion is in order. I hate going on Dr's appointments, but we are talking about you and your health.

I agree with Vic...try the Avonex. You can always go to one of the other DMDs, if Avonex doesn't work for you.
I would see an opthomologist (Neuro) about your eye. I hope you feel better soon.. ![]()

Thank you everyone, I made an appointment with my neuro for next week to clarify things and ask him some more questions.

Ask your neuro about PT for your eye and also a consult with a neuro-opthalmologist. Surgery would be the absolutely LAST option. They can do things with a prism in glasses to correct for the vision and there are eye exercises to help. Also, if this is due to MS, it can resolve on it's own.
