Default Feels like my leg is in a barbecue

Is there any medication that helps with a burning sensation.

My left leg from just below the hip down to my kneecap is burning. Sometimes it's not so bad, and sometimes I just want to cut the dang thing off. I have a little burning in the other knee (just the kneecap) and the sensation of wearing knee high socks. Thick ones on the left leg and thin ones on the right.

It's really irritating me right now, probably because I went upstairs to talk to my dad, and all of a sudden my mother is screaming at me for no reason. (she's got a few...problems...herself. I was talking to my dad about my new computer chair, and something about that conversation set my mom off...no idea what it was)

I went downstairs to get away from the yelling, and now the grill my leg is cooking on feels like it's been set on "nuclear fire". I know thinking about the burning can make it worse, but it's kind of difficult to ignore.

I have some Amitriptyline from the insomnia I had over the summer (the Ami quit working as a sleep med a month or two ago) I seem to remember my regular doctor telling me it's good for neurological pain sometimes. I just dont know if I want to start taking it again because of all the weird side effects it was causing me.

I called the neuro about this today, but he never called back.

I guess I'll go upstairs and see if I get verbally attacked again for wanting to return my new computer chair (it's uncomfortable, but that could be because of the wacky/burning leg sensations)

I had to get rid of our old computer chair because it was hurting my hip and sending pains down my leg so it probably is the chair.

I got a new chair with more adjustment features and no more pain!

I just noticed that stress makes it worse. (my mom is having a meltdown upstairs and was yelling at me because I was talking about the chair being uncomfortable...weird things set her off...she has no anger control. Had to go downstairs to get away from her and noticed that the burn increased in intensity after that)

I'm probably going to return the chair tomorrow (it's ice raining here now) and I guess I'll have to pony up some more money for a better chair. Maybe I'll go for the leather chair they had.

The back of my thigh feels more numb when I'm sitting in this chair. Before I got diagnosed, I had a memory foam mattress pad for my bed, and the stupid numbness developed a few months after I got that mattress. The foam gave me a weird sensation that made the numbness in my legs worse. I ended up sleeping in my Lazyboy chair for a few nights before my boyfriend came and picked up the mattress pad to give to one of his friends.

I dont think my new chair has memory foam in it, but the upholstery is vinyl, and the chair doesnt breathe well. My legs and butt sweat when sitting in it.

I guess the only thing that I really like about this chair is the headrest. Fell asleep in the chair yesterday, and was happy that I didnt get whiplash from my head falling backwards everytime I fell asleep.

I am sorry you are having the leg issue I know exactly what you are talking about! Stress makes it worse. I don't know why but t does. Steer clear of mom for the night.

I just sat and knitted and finished a scarf I was working on. That helped the flames go down a bit, but I've got one heck of a headache that wont go away either tonight, and I think that might somehow be connected to the burning leg.

oh...and the toes on my other foot are feeling a little "warm" now too. Nothing compared to what's going on in the other leg.

This is really really irritating!

Hi Erin,

I get that dang burning pain on the top of my head (left side) and in my left arm. Neurontin has helped to a degree. Another med that they try if neurontin is not helping is lyrica. I notice that stress or being really tired aggravates the burning on my head/forehead also.

I have some Amitriptyline left over from my insomnia problem, but I'm probably not going to try it unless it gets so bad that I cant stand it any more. I'm calling my neuro again tomorrow, and if he's not there, I'm asking for one of the others in that office.

I'm not sure which is worse, neuropathic burning, or vertigo. (had a little of that over the weekend) If I get any more vertigo, I'm seriously going to consider steroids, if I do that, hopefully it'll help the spontaneous combustion.

Sorry bout the pain, and hope you feel better. I use Neurontin, because I have RLS, and it helps tremendously. I take 2 600mg tablets at bedtime, along with a Flexiril and together they work very well.

Ask your doctor about Neurontin, or any of the others in the same catagory,ok?
Feel better soon, and I hope I've posted this correctly, as it's my first post.

I'm going to call tomorrow about it.

Last time I had burning in the legs (not as bad as this) I put a heating pad on it, which actually helped. I'm afraid to try that now, so instead, I put an ice pack on my leg earlier. It actually helped, but I have to keep the ice pack on it, constantly. It did take about an hour for the burn to build back up after I put the ice pack back in the freezer, so at least it helped to calm things down a bit.

I'm going to try the ice pack again later just before I go to bed.

I might go buy a tube of Capsaicin creme tomorrow and try that. I've read it helps for some neurological pain.

I hope I can talk the neuro into some LDN if I have to go back to see him this week to get some neurontin or lyrica. No idea if that would help the burning, but I'd really like to get a Rx for the LDN no matter what. I want to try it to see if it'll help me.

Have you changed laundry/laundry sheets, body soap, or shampoo, etc. recently, Erin?

For some reason my allergies cause that neurological burning, and I have no idea why. My doc said that many people with MS who have that symptom will get relief from antihistimines (i.e. Benadryl), for some reason.

I used Benadryl until I could re-wash all my clothing, and it really helped with the burning. I always know when I've put on something that I haven't worn/re-washed though as the burning comes back in full force again. It feels like a blow-torch on my legs, so I know what you mean about it feeling like your leg is in a bbq.
