on darvon, or darvacet.
it's an oral pain reliever. FYI: "gov't medical advisers friday recommended a ban on Darvon, a prescription medicine that's been used to treat pain for more than 50 yrs but left a trail of problems such as addiction and suicide." "an FDA advisory panel voted 14-12 to recommend withdrawing Darvon after a daylong hearing examing its risks and benefits. the FDA is not required to follow the recommendations of its advisers, but often does so." "Darvon was first approved in 1957 when there were few alternatives for treating pain except aspirin and powerful narcotics. now mainly marketed as Darvocet, which includes a dose of acetaminophen, the drug remains one of the top 25 most commonly prescribed medications." i just read this in my newspaper today and wanted to pass it on. of course always check with your dr when it comes to something like this. don't stop medication on your own.

Hmmmmm, Interesting. I took darvacet when I had my teeth pulled. I found it just marvelous..LOL.
I hope they don't start pulling drugs, just because of their addictive possibilities...we won't have anything for pain. ![]()

I liked Darvacet too when I had teeth pulled. Seems that is the problem, everyone likes it too much. But like Sally said, all drugs can be addicting. Gosh, Jim is on Methadone for crying out loud and that trumps Darvacet.

oh carp...
a few bad apples ruin things for others who truly need it, but don't want/need to hit high level narcotics (or admit they don't need them) I think they should leave it on the market, as bad doctor' should have thier licence pulled and bad apples will just find something else to abuse.

i don't know what the FDA decided to do, or when they're supposed to decide.
i'll keep watch in the paper. if they do ban it, it will make the news i'm sure.

Thanks for the info, Judy! Seems like more and more drugs are either getting pulled or labeled in the BLACK BOX category. A person doesn't know what to take or do anymore.

Wow thanks for the news. I don't know if this will also affect north of the border or not...
It is scary... my doctor was hesitant to put me on an extremely low dose of Clonazepam due to it's habit forming properties (and abuse record, sadly). Meanwhile in very small amounts, it's been a wonder drug for my issue (burning mouth). I'd hate to think what I'd do if they banned it too. ![]()
