Thanks, but my surgery has been put on hold. The insurance company has decided it is not "medically necessary." READ: they don't want to spend the $$. The docs and I are appealing the decision.

Someone from the peer review board called my neurosurgeon and told him that the board was denying the surgery request and that I should continue with the nerve block steroid injections. Evidently they haven't read the letter that the 5 nerve block injections thus far have done nothing to alleviate the pain and given me back the use of my arm. So, at $1200 a pop for these useless injections, how long will it take to equal the cost of the surgery?

I am in the process of preparing a cost:benefit analysis for them using medical data that goes back to 2001.

Anyway, the one-winged, unemployed flygirl has not given up!

Thanks everyone and good luck tomorrow Jim!

And thanks for all the information Risby! And how's life without the hard collar???

FG - Sorry about all the insurance stuff. I had to go through the appeals process for DD17. She had strep for months straight and the doctors (ped. & ENT) highly recommended taking her tonsils out. The insurance said no. So, I asked them to put in writing that they would continue to cover her for the rest of her life as the risk of her having lasting medical issues was getting higher. Would they pay for hearing aids, any heart trouble, etc. AND would they pay for the antibiotics for all the kids in the day care that she kept giving strep, compensate the parents for their loss of earnings as well as mine for having to take time off work to take care of the kids. I put together a packet of stats and the health risks of prolonged strep. We got approved immediately. LOL

Good luck doing your research and analysis. I hope all goes well.

JustJim - How are you? I hope all went well with your surgery and you are recovering well.

Bottom line for insurance is money not the health of any individual. I am sorry the corporate institution gets to decide. I sure hope you can get the appeal. It is unreasonable for you to have been denied.

And Sandy, let us know as soon as you can.
