My endo tests me every year along with my Calcium and pth thats becasue i have high levels of calcium. This was the first year mine has been low. He says a large part of the population especially in the north have low levels. He told me seizures meds can lower it and i am on Neurontin but i;ve been on it since 2001. He put me on 800 to 1000 units daily and wants me retested in 3 months which is July.

I told him it was thought to be common in MS he said it is very common in the general public so not surprising there would be many with MS just becasue they are more likely being checked.

I do notknow what my levels were.

be well

Vitamin D and Diabetes-Can We Prevent it? 48mins
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTtmv...eature=channel

Includes recommendations of Vitamin D for Disease Prevention

Minimum intake
1000 iu D3 infants
2000-2400 iu D3 adults
2000 iu D3 children 1-12

40-60 ng/ml was the serum level target for all ages

I listened to this recently... The intro discussed some basics about vitamin D and also epidemiology. But, at about the 30 minute mark, they began talking about this large study done in Finland. It involved 12,000 children followed for 30 years. They were looking at many things, but one of them was Type 1 diabetes. What is showed is that infants who received vitamin D supplements in their first year of life were 80% less likely to develop TIDM.

My sister is a nurse who has attended several local seminars given by area doctors about vitamin D because of this:
Low vitamin D status: time to recognize and correct a Wisconsin epidemic.

She said her newer information is right in line with the above, suggesting a target range of 40-60 ng/ml.
