I currently take 900 mg of gabapentin three times per day. I originally started out at 300mg, three times per day two years ago; was then increased to 600 mg, three times per day a few months later; and last November was increased to my current dosage.
About six weeks ago the burning returned and it seems to be getting worse. I had not called my neuro because I did not want to increase the amount that I am taking. I was hoping to "ride" it out. I have also gained about 35 pounds since being on neurontin ![]() I also experience burning in my left forearm, but it does not seem to bother nearly as much as the burning on my head. It starts at the top of my forehead and is on the entire left side of my head. I finally gave in and called my neuro's office a few minutes ago. Any suggestions? |

![]() ![]() No answers.....just hugs. I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. I gained weight on Neurontin, too. Seems we have to take one step forward and two steps back with some of these meds. I hope your Neuro can give you some answers.

Hi Barb,
When I am in the sun, I mean with the sun directly on my head, it burns and hurts. Even for hours later unless I go in and wash my hair and run cool water on it. I may put an ice pack on it for a short time, on and off. It is not sunburn, it is just my head can't stand the heat of direct sun. I feel like it heats my brain, odd feeling. Then it goes away, unless I do it again. I have always wear a hat in the sun, when I know I will be exposed. Mostly a baseball-girlie-type-hat around the neighborhood or a hat that is currently in style. Whimsical even. ![]() What did your Neuro say?

Mine is not necessarily heat related. It just seems to get worse throughout the day. Although if I get really hot or stressed out, it does seem worse.

I can best describe mine as it feeling like my head's in one of those hot air dryers that fits over your head. That kind of overall but in some places hotter sensation. Or a crawling heat feeling. It's unnerving as heck!!! Mine also gets worse with heat, but ONLY with weather heat. When the humidity goes up, I get the head heat full time. Now that it's not humid and cool here this week, mine's gone away. Soon as it warms up though I expect it to return a bit. I didn't find any of the previous drugs I tried really helped it, and I haven't been on Cesamet long enough to find out if it's going to help the heat sensation. I do know it helped the more acute area of burning and pain so far. I gave Neurontin, Amitriptyline, Tegretol and a couple others a shot before.
