I am going to try it once I am off neurontin. I am only going to take 10mg for the first five days, and then slowly increase it up to 30 mg if I can tolerate it. And I am taking it at night.

Hi Barb,

I took Elavil many years ago for sleep/depression issues. I was on it for about 7 months. I was not on a high dose - -wish I could remember what it was. Maybe 10 or 20 mg.? Don't be surprised if it makes you severely constipated so you may want to start doing fiber. I also gained 20 lbs. on it which I lost when I went off it and started exercising. Anyhow, good luck. I'm sorry you are feeling so cruddy these days and I hope you feel better soon.

I took amitriptyline for insomnia. Helped for a couple of months (didnt always take it every night) and then one day it just quit working.

It made me feel really weird, and it took me about a week to get off of it. I hated the way it made me felt, and getting off of it sucked mightily (I'd been taking it every day for a month or two the last couple of months I was using it)

Okay, you all are scaring me. I hate trying new meds. I am not too worried about the weight gain -- have already been experiencing that with neurontin. Maybe I will lose my appetitie like Laura.

Will buy some benefiber.

Hoping I do not have too many problems getting off of the neurontin.

Laura, I did not mean to make light of your response. I just could not ever imagine forgeting to eat since I have had the opposite problems with neurontin.

Well, I only took the elavil for five days and then stopped. I could not stand how dried out it made me feel. Burning, itching eyes, and dry mouth and sinuses. I was also rather dizzy while on it. I have lost about 12 pounds in the three weeks I have been off of neurontin, but I am still dealing with nausea and stomach pains.

Sorry it went like that. What's up with the stomach thing, coming off neurontin does that? Hope that passes soon - that is no way to drop a few lbs.



Maybe you could try lyrica or cymbalta if you haven't yet.

Already tried cymbalta - could not handle the nausea. I have an appointment with my neuro in two weeks.
