I have eye swishing. I switched from Prozac to Zoloft about 8 months ago. My swishing started around that time but it persists. I get swishing when I move my eyes to quickly. Its usually one or two swishes and maybe a slight off balance feeling. I also have some vascular issues and I am worried it might be related to that. Has anyone had these swishing sound persist?

Hi robbie919,
I haven't had this problem but I can easily believe that it's real--and annoying. The vestibular system in the ears is connected with eye movements, and maybe something goes haywire with that connection. I'm guessing here though. You might want to run this by your primary care doctor and maybe be referred to an otolaryngologist. And it does sound as if this situation might be connected with the Zoloft you're taking. Why not ask the prescribing doctor about changing the dose or substituting a different drug?

Thanks for the reply. Yea, I have been changing meds for other health issues so I have been waiting on changing the SSRIs. I plan on eventually trying switching back to Prozac to see if that helps.

Currently switching back from Zoloft to Prozac. Been a few days still no improvement. My swishing sounds like karate chops in a movie. Google 'kung fu sounds' . Watch the video. its that swoosh swoosh sound!

Hearing sounds that aren't there is a type of hallucination, and both Zoloft and Prozac can cause hallucinations. In fact, you're supposed to contact your doctor if you have hallucinations as a result of taking Prozac--see what it says under "Prozac Side Effects":
Prozac Uses, Dosage, Side Effects & Warnings - Drugs.com I hope you'll be in touch with the prescribing doctor so that an adjustment to the dosage can be made, or maybe you'll need to give up on the SSRIs.

I was originally on Prozac and not having these issues thus the reason I am switching back. SSRIs have long half lives and it can take a while to get one drug out and the new one into your body. Going to give it a couple more weeks and will follow up with the GP then. Thx

I was wondering, you mentioned vascular issues. Could I ask what your vascular issues are as, I hope you don't mind, but they might give me a clue. We might also be able to help each other on this. Thanks. |
