Default What do you do for nausea?

I suffer from growing bouts of nausea. From sudden waves out of nowhere, to the other night when I woke up at 3 am and had to throw up. I've been nauseous all week. This is probably the fourth time this year I've felt so sick to my stomach.

The last time I went to my GP it got so bad. She figured it was several different things, put me on Zantac for a month, and things improved. Yet it's less than a month and it's hit me again.

How do you know 100% its the MS and not something else? I haven't even mentioned this to my neuro and I just saw her two weeks ago for muscle spasms. So far the only thing that offers me any real relief, even for a few hours, is smoking pot.

I'm so sorry....I hate that feeling of Nausea I get. Sometimes it's from dizzyness and sometimes it's from an empty stomach, for me. If I eat a cookie or cracker, I feel better.

In the meantime, smoke em if ya got em!!

I have an rx for Phenergan but it makes me so sleepy I only take it if I'm desperate.

Usually if I eat something salty like a cracker or a pretzel that takes care of it.

I use fresh ginger. I eat the fresh ginger. I also steep shaved ginger into tea. You can get ginger root in the grocery store. I dont know if the jars of powdered ginger work. But fresh ginger root helps me alot!

I drink something carbonated and eat a salty cracker of some sort.

and I also like my Rx Meclizine, even tho it makes me sleepy.

I have yet to vomit yet from the weird nausea that I've gotten since the MS kicked into gear. At least it hasnt bothered me much.

I get two types of nausea. One is from the vertigo that I get sometimes...the other nausea is weird. It'll happen usually while I'm eating, and comes out of the blue. It's actually a lot more disturbing to me than the nausea from the vertigo. It's a different "quality" of nausea. It feels different than nausea from vertigo too.

You're not alone, Catch...

I get some horrible waves of nausea. I take 20mg of prilosec (actually I take the generic CVS brand) OTC every morning, and it seems to help.
I constantly complained to my PCP about the nausea before and after my MS diagnosis. He sent me for a barium swallow and I have moderate reflux. I guess it's a pretty common condition for MSers. My former neuro told me that my constant nausea could be MS related, but I really haven't pursued it much further than that.
Pot is great for nausea and for certain types of pain. Unfortunately, it makes me sleepy and goofy so I can't use it as a go-to all the time. My mother in law provides me with a steady high-quality supply. It takes 2 puffs for me and I'm done, I guess I'm a light weight. Fortunately for me, pot was decriminalized in my state recently- the max my small supply could cost me is $100.
Aside from fatigue and pain, nausea is one of my most troubling symptoms. I usually get dizziness with it, too, and that's extra-fun.
Thanx for starting this thread. I really thought I was alone in this. I tried to look for co-horts on BT but no one else seemed to have regular nausea to the same degree.

-Kay

My neuro gave me phenergan. When It is the worse I have a lot of vomiting and for those times I have to use the phenergan suppositories and they give me some relief. I don't mind the drowsiness when it's bad enough to take it. Because, then I'm so dizzy and lightheaded that I would like to sleep.

Hope yours gets better for you!

I'm gonna try that. Thanks! Ginger tastes good too. I used it for back ache and it helped. DD gets it in candy form, very yummy.

Thanks for all the input. I thought I was the only one that had it like this. Sorry to hear how bad some of you have it. I take up to two prilosec and a couple acidopholous tablets a day, but it doesn't seem to do much. The scripts don't sound too fun. And pot works amazingly well, but I can't really do that at work now can I? Each episode in the last six months has gotten worse, maybe I should mention it to my neuro. I didn't even realize the ms was causing it until after the last time I saw her.

I just saw this thread. I have been dealing with nausea for the past month since I quit taking neurontin. I already take nexium for gerd. Ginger is a good idea; I will have to try it.
