Default Gyne surgery done yesterday......

Well I had my surgery yesterday as outpatient., I talked to the Anthestia dept and they said they would do a general., which my neuro said was fine as my myasthenia is mild, I have mestinon to take when needed , but hadn't taken any for a while as been getting lots of rest.
Well, I told them I get nausea bad., they gave me some meds prior to surgery in the IV., when I woke up in surgery barely awake I was vomiting profusely so they started to suction me., and gave me phenergan., then I was moved to the second recovery room and respiration buzzer kept going off., then said keep taking deep breaths and cough which I kept doing but it keep going down., so they had respiratory dept give me a breathing treatment., they said it was probably some pain med they gave in surgery along with anthesia and could be some MG was related to it. In a lot of pain, came home in a lot of pain gave me vicodin., took it twice., still have a good bit of mucous and but basically breathing fine., no muscle weekness. But pain., is it okay to take the vicodin since I had a little trouble breathing?

Default Yikes!

Wow, it sounds like you had a really rough time. I'm sorry, I can't answer your question about vicodin, but I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than me will be along to help you. Just wanted to say sorry that you went through such an awful time.

Heart Hi Whirlwind!

Wow! You poor thing! how scary for you!

My Gram is allergic to any/all opiates and I think Vicodin is an opiate - you need to check with your dr and make sure that you CAN take them without it affecting your breathing! I am the polar opposite! I can take ANYTHING (so far, knock wood) and am fine.......Appaently I have a very acidic body that processes things funny, so I have to have 12 or so shots for my root canals and then it still doesn't work, so I end up getting shots IN the nerve to help with pain...........

I really would check and make sure you're OK with your dr b/4 you take anything else. I'm not trying to be doom and gloom girl, just a concerned friend.....Do you have anyone with you to help YOU out?

Hang in there, sweetie! I bet you can get another type of pain reliever that will WORK and not make you sick!

Love,
Erin

Hey Nancy,

I'm so sorry you had such a terrible time with the surgery. I'm sure you're glad to have that behind you. I don't know what to tell you on the Vicoden. You said you took 2 already. Did you have any breathing problems after taking them? Maybe you could give your nuero's office a quick call and see what he/she has to say about it...just to be on the safe side. They may want you to take something else or say it's ok to take them. You obviously can't continue having pain...it will take you longer to heal. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help. Please take it easy and I'll be keeping good thoughts.

Big Hugs,
Pat

I'm glad you are okay! Thanks for letting us know.

Whatever pain meds they give you can make MG worse. Morphine is the worst offender. My breathing was moderately severe after being on it for 24 hours for pain.

Vicodin may be okay for you but only you and your neuro can decide on it. Be very watchful of increased weakness. Be aware that Vicodin contains acetaminophen!!! DO NOT take Tylenol or any other products containing acetaminophen while you are taking it or you can overdose.

Just take it easy if you can. I hope you're much better soon.

Annie
