Ditto on what Juanitad said. Blood sugar usually only goes up into the 130's after a meal for "normal" people.

A doctor can actually prescribe a glucose meter for you, so that you can get those very high priced glucose test strips for a lot less.

And there are a lot of ways to manage glucose, like having foods like avacados, cashew/almond/peanut butters, etc. It might be a good idea to see a nutritionist to makes sure you can avoid the mountains of high glucose and then the valleys of low blood sugar that are almost inevitable.

I did tell my family doctor about it, and she said I did NOT have diabetes and all my labs were normal.

Yet i am on accutane (isotretenoin) for my acne, and my derm did blood tests last weak and found out my tryglicerides are very high.

Im not sure what do to!

Thanks guys

Tyson, Oh, sure, you go and casually mention you are on Accutane!!!

Do the doctors who prescribed Prednisone know that you are on it?!!! It's relatively contraindicated while taking Pred. And your triglycerides can go way high on Accutane.

There are other acne meds and there are doctors who actually look at hormone levels before they do anything like Accutane.

You need to really think about this. With such high bad fats running around your blood stream, you could be at risk for a stroke or heart attack, especially when you have plasmapheresis. Could this be what happened?!!! And if you have any narrowing of an artery somewhere, it will make it worse.

Time for that cardiologist appointment. And to rethink taking Accutane. Zits won't kill you but MG will. I know how hard it is to have acne. It should be outlawed!!!

There must be a better alternative for you.

Default Annie:

Yes Annie, I forgot to mention that. Yet my neurologist knows, but he doesn't know about the high blood tryglicerides. Should i let
him know that?

Once I get home
I will set up a cardio app.

As we speak my feet are
tingling, and I can hardly lift
my arm. But. I've done alot, and now it's time for
some much needed rest.

Hope you all feel well!

Tyson, Yes. All of your doctors need to know "everything," because one thing affects another affects another . . .

Good, because you really need a cardiologist to assess the O2 situation and the weird plasmapheresis reaction.

Glad you'll be back home soon. Have a good holiday.

Accutane!

This drug was designed for severe polycystic acne only, but many doctors give it easily for mild to moderate cases!

When your triglycerides go really high (and I have seen young people get as high at 1000! on this drug), your blood becomes very thick and viscous. Then it cannot move easily thru the blood vessels in the hands and feet. This might be a reason for the tingling, which may increase and turn into numbness.

In fact high triglyerides are a larger risk factor for heart attack or stroke or blood clots than elevated cholesterol!

I would really urge you to get off Accutane. It is one of the top drugs the FDA is looking at closely to remove from sale anyway because it is so dangerous to the health. It has scraped by recently in the last review, and it is thought it will not be around much longer.

http://patientsville.com/medication/...de_effects.htm
this link shows how dangerous this drug is....look at reported side effects! Crohn's and ulcerative colitis! both autoimmune diseases! This is one of the most toxic drugs on the market!

Regarding blood sugar levels. I know all about pred affecting it,so decided to start taking chromium picolinate, which supposidly helps maintain a healthy blood sugar level.
I do also get my levels checked.
I would appreciate any thoughts on this, as I'm interested to know if I'm wasting my money, or doing damage. My gp does know I take it.

Kate, I am no expert on this stuff. Here are some articles for you. I think that, as with any supplement or drug, you have to think about "what if" you stopped it. Would there be a "bounce back" effect, making whatever you are trying to help worse after you stop. Kind of like when people stop hypertension meds they can have even worse BP after they stop than when they began the meds.

It looks like there are precautions regarding clearance of it (kidneys) and potential cancer risks, even though it is also used for some cancer patients.

Mrs. D. probably has a much better handle on all this.

Tyson,

I know I shouldn't but I can't help but smile while reading about you playing tag and not really relaxing because you remind me of myself 19 years ago. I like yourself was a go, go, go kind of person but PLEASE listen to us when we say slow down! We have all been in your shoes and understand. What I don't understand is WHY does your Dr have you on such a high doese of pred? I was on 60 2 times a day and it was sooo hard on my system that today I can't take it at all. I think you need to talk to your Dr and have him or her explain why you are such a high dose.

Also that zip meds are not good for a healthy person never mind an MGer. Please think about getting off that medication. We all suffer from zits at some time in our life. {myself, never had them until I went on pred}

Please be careful and enjoy your time in Maine, just remember to take things slow and easy, the sooner you do that the sooner you will be up and running again!

Merry Christmas!
