This is super silly but it popped into my head today as I was trying to rest. Jennyg97 was the inspiration, since I can't handle when doctors can't "see." Well, let's face it, you're all the inspiration . . . I had just reached an inability to deal with blind doctoring.
This isn't like the "Spoon Theory," even though it rhymes with it. It's all about how doctors deal with diseases, not how patients do. • New Moon: No obvious signs of MG but you know you're weaker than normal. The doctor cannot "see" a thing wrong with you. Maybe you're anxious or depressed. ( Quarter Moon: A few signs of clinical weakness but the test results are negative. The doctor can tell you might be weak but there isn't enough evidence and you are dismissed to "see how it goes." Maybe you need a nap. (| Half Moon: A handful of signs of clinical weakness but you only have half of the test results needed for a diagnosis. You have "possible" MG and are sent for more testing. () Three Quarters Moon: You are obviously clinically weak and are given a "probable" MG diagnosis and some Mestinon. Let's check back in six months to see how "we" are doing. O Full Moon: What you do to the doctor if s/he can't definitively diagnose you at this point. At every single stage, the MG "moon" was real but the doctor couldn't see the entire clinical sky so he could not "believe" in it. Or you. Seeing is not believing. Believing is seeing! Geez, Alice, I was being silly, not writing a thesis on the problems with MG diagnostics! I was trying to show how far a little faith will go. This time of year, we could all use some faith not to mention a laugh or two.
Have a good holiday season. Annie |

I just saw your post now, as was mostly in bed for the last few days, struggling with a respiratory infection. I wasn't offended by what you said. I realized that what I wrote was a bit out of place. Mostly, that there was really nothing novel about it that I didn't say about a zillion times before. There is a saying- when you have a hammer, everything you see is a nail. So, its time I stop using my hammer so much. Hope this year is better and healthier for us all. with a lot of creative moons. And remembering there is a wonderful life beyond MG, SFEMGs and all. Haha, Annie, this is great! Very creative writing and clever concept. It is so true. I hate the part where you feel like you have to "prove" you have a problem and docs pat you on the head or boot you out of their office saying they have no answers for you. I liked the part about the full moon...made me laugh! Thanks for sharing!

I loved your post Alice. I didn't understand it at all and it appeared to exactly depict reality.
The original post was indeed very (maybe too) inspiring. I was sorely tempted to expand on it and decided not to. As an aside, for what it's worth, the moon is full when it is eclipsed. http://www.mreclipse.com/Special/LEprimer.html |
