I guess that this is a positive energy statement sort of. My daughter volunteers with a cat rescue group in her town 50 miles from here. She was showing me pictures of some of the kittens that desperately need homes if they are to live. To make a long story short, one of them will be moving in with us next week.

Oh, Annie! It is so good to see you post again.....I've been worried.

I always learn something when I read your posts -- sometimes I have to do a little research so that I can understand what you are talking about (my ole brain ain't what it used to be). Thank you for sharing your journey, your innermost thoughts, and deepest feelings. You are one of the bravest people I know.

Thanks, Mrs. D. I honestly wasn't sure I'd be able to handle anything soon. I'm so glad you've been able to get new kitties after so much loss. It's been a year and a half and I still miss my shih-tzu Teddy. I can't handle another pet, so he was "it" for me. Houdini seriously disappeared? That's both so sad and ironic.

Steph, If only MG would let me talk for hours! There aren't a lot of people I know who are so scientifically inclined. It's hard to know as much as I do (which is relatively a small amount) and not be able to talk about it much. BTW, you live near one of the best centers of energy in the world. Have you ever looked at the Becker-Hagens grid, aka ley lines? When I couldn't find a good neuro where I live to diagnose me, a woman named Sharry referred me to her neuro in Florida who is an MDA Director and MG expert. I always felt better in Florida. It honestly energized me. It might've had a little to do with walking on the beach too. Have you ever been to Coral Castle? I've always wanted to go there.

Hi, Kathie. Welcome! I think there are a lot of women who would fight over Shatner's Kirk. Though the new Chris Pine version isn't so bad either. I'm trying to catch up on posts but it might take awhile. I really hope your docs can help you figure out what's going on. Have you seen other docs like a neuro-ophthalmologist (if you have ptosis)? It's hard getting used to MG. I'm used to it but I still get surprised by it. You may have a particular "pattern" of weakness after you do an activity but then it up and throws you a curve ball from time to time. Like, today I'm going to make you weak for no apparent reason and the plans you had you'll have to change! Of course, I can only take Mestinon (plus Flovent for asthma which helps MG too), so my situation is a bit different. I didn't so much want to marry Kirk but be Kirk - a female version. Look below for me as Kirk from my book which has yet to be put up as an e-book. I also did a political satire of the trouble our Pres. was having with Congress last year (and every other year). Spock is great but there are times when you really need Kirk!

Celeste, Yes, it's always positive when you help out an animal. Pets are hard work but they can actually extend your life! We all need that unconditional love, especially if we don't get it from people. I really wish I could afford another dog, both physically and financially. I just went through too much medical stuff with my last 2 shih-tzu's. If I went through it again, it might do me in!

Jana, You're so funny. Brave, eh? I think MG makes all of us brave. We don't know if we can finish eating. We don't know if we can drive back home from running errands. Sipping water is scary. You have bad bulbar symptoms like I do. I think we're both pretty damn fierce. Sorry about the vague science info. It's not a topic one can whittle down into a sound bite very easily. I think learning something new is what keeps us young. My nickname growing up was "Booko" because I kept asking my Mom after she read a story to me - and needed to hide the book because she was very busy with 3 other kids - "Where'd the book go?" I missed you, BTW, and your POV on things.

Okay, Mike, I'm glad you're thankful but how are you doing?!!

When our two very old kitties died, close together, 2 months apart, I was crushed. After 3 days, during a cold early January, I looked on Craig's list, and found Weezie. She was left behind from a family litter, as no one wanted to adopt her. She was timid, and afraid of people.
She latched onto me immediately and has turned into a very special cat. When Houdini went missing I was sick over that...no more cats, my brain and heart told me then last May! Then Oreo's remission of her cancer ended and we had to put her to sleep just before our vacation in late July.

This all rather piled up on me....and a friend of ours upNorth who runs a Rescue...promised me a nice kitten. And she delivered also. I do believe we need a time of mourning. And each pet IS a different personality. But what we receive from them is very important to me, so in the end, we have little Maya now. She is special too. We've nurtured her from a frightened feral baby who hid in the house, to a more comfortable affectionate cat. Watching her grow is a special feeling, not unlike growing flowers from seeds, which I also do each spring.

No matter how terrible I feel some days, or how much pain I have, it doesn't seem to overwhelm me when I have something or someone to nurture. I found myself after Houdini's loss, looking at rescue places and photos of kittens. So now we've taken the emotional plunge with another cat. Weezie has been fabulous with Maya too...helping like a big sister, from the first day! She has been instrumental in taming this frightened, lost little kitty from the Upper Pennisula of Michigan! Even when Weez was not feeling 100% herself, she was wonderful. She had a mystery illness that turned out to be an animal or spider bite on her neck. The wonderful Vet up there who is experienced with these events, saved her for us, and little Maya, who we adopted near the end of our stay up there.

Oh, Annie, I LOVE your art!! So glad you are still creating!!

BTW, I loved the old Star Trek series -- but, the new movie is pretty darn good, too!!! Doesn't hurt that Chris Pine has the most beautiful eyes! Star Trek, The Fifth Element -- these are flicks I can watch OVER and OVER and OVER and...............

Annie,

I'm so glad that you decided to adopt another kitty. My husband and I truly believe that giving an animal a loving home and then receiving unconditional love will help you in so many ways. We have always had rescued animals throughout our 32 years of marriage, both dogs and cats. We have had to see 12 of them pass away over that time and that is the hardest decision a person has to make. But you have given that animal a wonder life and giving another animal a loving home helps fill that void.

Now we find ourselves with 10 cats and a very ill 14 year old dog. We already had four cats and the dog then six of the kitties came to us from trying to help two feral kitties last winter (male and female) and the femaile got pregnant before we could gain her trust and get her fixed. So four kittens later (which we could not find homes for) we have our hands full - a true definition of "no good deed goes unpunished". All the rescue agencies were full and we know that if we took them to the county shelter they would be put down because they were all feral at first and the agencies won't take the time to work with an animal that isn't immediately adoptable. We were not going to send them to a certain death.

A long definition (which I'm good at doing) those kitties will help you see that life is worth living no matter your health problems and believe me because I'm living with MG and SPS. And I can barely clean one room and then have to take a couple of days to recover.

A positive attitude also goes a long way to help you deal with things. I hope you can continue to find the good things in life and concentrate on them.

Good luck.

Becky

Thanks, Anacrusis. I love the kind energy. I hope you're doing well.

Mrs. D., I'm glad you're able to have kitties. I can't have them - not really a cat person either, though I do enjoy my sister's cats. There's too much of a risk for Mycoplasma infections. Having already had one, I'd rather not repeat it!

Teresa, My Dad's been gone for 16 years now but his "voice" is still in my head every single time I write anything. Teachers. Oy.

Jana, Well, whatever you do, DON'T watch Melancholia. What a depressing, yet enthralling, movie. I don't know what my favorite Sci-Fi is. Star Trek is always first but after that, I don't know. I do so love The Last Mimzy but it ends with the kids floating up to a sky filled with a chemtrail. Not good.

Becky, I'm sure you realize that it's Mrs. D. and not me who has new kitties. That's an awful lot of kitties for one family. I don't think I could handle the vet bill let alone keeping them all straight. I would love another pet but it's not going to happen.

About a month ago, I went a different direction to go to the grocery store. I saw a yellow billboard with just the word "LOVE" on it. There was no obvious message other than that. It totally made my day. I now have the word and symbol up on my computer and walls. I smile every time I see them.

Annie,

I apologize for the mix up. That comes from reading too many posts and taking too many drugs to control my illnesses.

I just want you to know that there is so much to be thankful for and taking it day to day is a very hard thing to do but we have no choice. I too have been so depressed at the beginning of this journey but I'm lucky to have a partner that has stood by me (not to mentioned the furry babies). The only activity that I can do is housework (which I hate), I would much rather be outside playing in the dirt but my balance issues won't allow.

Please know that we are all thinking about you and hope for the best.

Becky
