Default shoulder and neck fatigue from sitting with no support

I'm still trying to figure out why sitting makes me weak at church, and at dinner, but not at my computer desk or while I'm reading to the kids. And I have a NEW THEORY!

The church pew always does me in. I think it could be that it has a straight, low, back. My neck has to hold up my head, and my upper back and shoulders have to hold up my neck with no help. As many myasthenics know, when you tire one set of muscles, you often get weak all over (the "Mary Walker Phenomenon"). My chair at the dinner table is similar. But my computer chair has a high, soft back, and I slump and rest the back of my head on the top of it. When I read to the kids, I'm supported in a recliner. So!

I got an idea from our own 4-eyes, and I'll let you know if it works. I am going to buy one of those folding stadium seats, with a high back. To the bar on top, we're going to add some pipe insulation--several layers. If we do it right, it could give support to my upper back and head. I can bring it to church. It's worth a try.

Does anyone else have any ideas?

Abby

I always wonder how one of those soft neck brace not the ones made with steel. I've seen them used when someone call for ER and they are like foam. I I would think in some cases when your shoulders hurt trying to keep your head up could be useful.
