I do. My neuro tx /Rx = cymbalta, mestinon, lortab, Valium. Vitamin therapies= turmeric, b-complex, magnesium and zinc, multi-centrum
Symptoms similar to yours, but have severe weakness and pain combined with vision, swallowing, speech, muscular weaknesses daily except for maybe an hour mid day. Time-release mestinon combined with 60 mg mestinon every 3 hrs (not every 6hrs). Allows less potentiation since the fibro and mg aggravate / potentiate each other increasing pain and weakness, etc among other symptoms, and now am having more tardive dyskinesia from mestinon, so Valium and magnesium reduces the side effects of the mestinon. It's requiring more and more mestinon in order to see breathe swallow speak function etc, becoming more resistant. Good luck. I'm fortunate to have a great team of six specialists and therapists who treat this tricky combo. Best.....r-
Hi, and welcome to the forum!

I wanted to take your info off of the other post, because it might get lost in there.

Do you, or your specialists, know that valium makes MG worse? Since it's a muscle relaxer, it makes muscles weaker. You might be taking more Mestinon because the valium is working against it.

How much magnesium do you take? Is it a separate supplement? If so, might I suggest a banana or some nuts instead? Too much magnesium makes MG worse, too.

I have not read anywhere that FM and MG aggravate each other. The mechanisms behind FM are very different than those for MG. Who told you this, and do you have any references for it?

Are you on any other pain meds, other than the Lortab? You should know that Neurontin can not only make MG worse, but has, in some cases, been shown to bring those symptoms on in people without it.

Have you been thoroughly evaluated for other conditions such as a Vitamin D or B12 deficiency, thyroid condition, arthritis, lupus or any other inflammatory condition, or any other general tests?

I'm not saying that this is the case for you, but doctors will often diagnose FM without doing a thorough evaluation for other causes first. And more than one cause for pain might be going on, and that might indeed attenuate the FM pain.

The combination of Valium and Lortab could be problematic. Mrs. D might be able to more adeptly inform you of any problems.

I am only trying to be helpful. Sometimes when someone has more than one health issue, their doctors can overlook other potential causes for symptoms. And if you aren't dealing with an MG expert, there really aren't a lot of doctors who understand MG in depth, plus all of the potential aggravators (i.e., the antibiotic Ketek).

How long have you had MG and FM? Is there anything we can help you out with?

Pain is a hard thing to live with. It's good that you have so much help.

Smile meds and welcome

Thanks so much. I am so new at this Annie. Am not even sure if I am posting correctly. Want to join some groups, including yours, but not findfing a link to "join." I have six speciaslists, and they/we agree to only treat the spasms symptomatically, and yes, it does become a choice and discernment. I been on the magnesium for TD (tardive dyskinesia) also, for v2 years sand it helps probably the most. I have a neuroopthalmologist who agrees with everything the other 5 decide on, but recommends nothing. The terrible painful muscle spasms are usually in one location, not everywhere at once. Which is why she (one of my neurologists) has prescribed the diazepam for the spasms, not daily round the clock or anything. The mestinon timespan and then a 60 mg dose every 5 hours, combined faith a time-release hydrocodone, so far has been the tailored dose which works the best for me. Fewer or no spasms, and enough strength to walk, talk, swallow, breathe etc. This is, so-far, after 2 years, the closest successful titrated dosages of the meds which allow functioning the best and the most. Every patient, as you know, is different, and so what works for my MG, fibro and osteoarthritis may not work for everyone else, or for anyone. We also do consults with Cleveland Clinic and a couple pharmacy professors on staff at the university here. Always tweaking and then allowing a couple months to validate/invalidate things. The giant hassle is that I KNOW the MG is primary and controlling everything else, and the MG meds likewise on the triage-level. Each condition, the MG, the fibromyalgia, the osteoarthritis, potentiates the aggravation and symptoms of the other condition. You been helpful on many levels with your comments, and we'll look at them, all my docs and myself. Appreciate you. Gratefully and respectfully...r-

Welcome richimahan! Sounds like you have been working hard at this!
I'm impressed that you actually have that many specialists working together...most unusual since the 'special egos of specialists' are so very special!!! (couldn't resist - it's late)
