I took mine at 6 hrs. 6, 12 and 6. If you notice you are weak when you wake up, you should ask your doc for the timespan to take before bed. It's a time release version so it gives you coverage overnight. It is NOT for day use though, because they couldn't get the time release action to be real steady. It will give you coverage overnight, just not reliable enough for the daytime! It's also referred to as Mestinon 180.

I think you should talk to your doc about how they suggest you split this 3 dose Rx up. They must have had something in mind when prescribing it that way, based on their understanding of your symptoms.

Hope this helps.

I took mine four hours apart when first diagnosed - now I take 60 mg every 3 hours - like clockwork. I take one about 20 mins before I get out of bed in the morning and then every 3 hours. Thankfully I don't get an upset tummy from them so I don't need to worry about taking them with food. My best suggestion to you (other than speaking to your doctor) is to listen to your body. I could always feel my eye starting to droop or my arms starting to feel heavy.

Good luck!

I take mine at 9 am, 4 pm and 11 pm. When I forget the 4 pm, I feel it at about 6 pm…
I therefore think that Mestinon should be taken when needed, try different schedules and keep the one which fits you best. It could also vary according to your activities…
When I was on a 5 x 60 mg Mestinon schedule, I took also Timespan Mestinon during the day, although it is much more expensive, it can also be easily broken in two (i.e. 90 mg) and I appreciated that convenience when I needed to stay without medication for about 5 hrs during the afternoon (bridge tournaments, for instance…)
Maurice.

Ditto on the comment that you need to call your neuro. They are supposed to put the dosing instructions on the prescription!!! If he didn't, he needs to tell you what he wants you to do. You should NOT follow anyone else's way of taking Mestinon because everyone with MG is different. I am on 90+ mg every 3 hours, round the clock. Not a good idea for you to do that!

Annie,
All my bottle says., 3 times a day., that was it. I go back to this neuro on wednesday to get my ct results., and I just have to put up with him till I can get into the mg specialist who is booked till August , but they are trying to get me in earlier if there is a cancellation. This neuro just makes light of everything., I just do not feel comfortable., but I know I will only have to put up with him temporarily.

Default Hey Becky

Wow, Becky, now I've read all the different approaches to Mestinon...& of course, everyone should refer to his/her neuro-doc.....I'm not understanding the day vs night theory....my neuro px the 180mg timespan...twice a day...so, early in the am, between 6 & 7, after I feed the horses, I take the 1st one with small am't of oatmeal, to ready me for the day....then the 2nd in the pm around 3-4 to try to even out the effects for early evening so I don't fall apart quite so early...seems to work fine for me....but I did follow your advice 'bout "with food".....JME...

Default Dottie, I'm surprised!

Every neuro I have has px the 180 for me, but have also told me NOT to take it during the day because the time realease is not reliable. Possibly it's because I have generalized MG and breathing issues hit fast on me, when they do? Maybe they've worked out the problem recently and my neuro doesn't know/trust it?

I certainly wouldn't change whats working for you though! You may just ask him about it when you see him next - I'd be interested in knowing if he has updated info that mine doesn't .
