A note about sweating . . . especially for those of you on Pred or who might have orthostatic problems.

Sweating can be a sign of LOTS of stuff, not just Mestinon side effects. It can be a sign of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) or diabetes. It can reflect infection, hormone swings, heart problems and lots of other stuff.

If you have ANY new symptoms, talk to your primary doctor and/or neuro about it. DO NOT assume it is just a side effect of a drug.

Default Wow Erin!

Yes Erin... Haha.. I feel the same too. Its weird though, for me, I perspire a lot more on my palms, underarms, thighs, feet. The rest of the body is fine except when sleeping. I perspire everywhere and wake up soaked. These days its as if they're dripping water... My mobile phone apparently is rusting inside, its giving me a lot of problems. The phone specialist asked if I had dipped my phone in water and no, I think most probably its my sweaty palms. Don't dare to shake hands with people now.

Also, anything above 50-60 outside just sets me off! I look like a drowned rat if I have to go anywhere....... Used to be cold all the time - now the opposite............

AUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Default Yes yes yes Steph!

Hey Steph, I get this feeling too... So don't worry about it! Its bad, but I'm getting used to the stickiness. It doesn't help that its humid here right now. I usually wake up soaked. Sometimes even in the middle of the night. I'm starting to feel that showers work only for a while.. The perspiration starts within an hour after showers... I always thought it was me but seeing all of you here having it too is a different thing. Is it really the meds cos I'm not on any?

I know "too much information"...hehehee....but this is driving me crazy! I take my bath at night...and now I am having to take a shower in the mornings too....then I feel sweaty/ sticky during the day from all the sweating....

One of my co-worker had botox on her underarms to stop the sweating....she doesn't have any medical issues...just sweats constantly.

Question Sweats and no meds

Connie,
as Annie posted, there can be lots of reasons for the sweats - mine seems to have been that virus. It started just being night sweats (not hormones on me, though I'm at "that age"), then progressed to daytime as well. It has stopped since I got on the anti viral meds.

Has anyone tried talc or baby powder after putting on deodorant. It didn't cure the sweating, but did help and seemed to reduce the odor. I never had odor before this last bout with this virus thing, so I wonder about that causing it too!

Smile Hi Connie!

Yep! I am a sexy beast! Sideburns, double chin, excessive facial hair! Woo-hoo! Oh, and I forgot the cankles! LOL!

They will go away and I will be albe to make it through the night without sweating............. My neuro is going to reduce my pred to 20 after my next round of IV IG - hopefully that will help in reducing all of the effects!
All in all though pred has been a life saver! I would rather be overweight and sweaty and ABLE to do things than super thin and too tired to walk, talk, breath....all the rest!

Maybe we can have botox shots on our hands and feet - I've heard that it helps with excessive sweating.....now I know we can't have it done on our faces, but it may help with all of the rest of it!

Big hugs!
Erin

Thumbs up Hi xmas!

I know how you feel! When it is in the 50's here in San Antonio I walk around in tank tops and lounge pants with flip flops - while everyone else walks around with jackets, etc.........They all look @ me like I'm nuts, but it does feel great!

Going in tomorrow to have my line flushed and have my back xrayed - fun!

Hope you are feeling strong today!

Big, big hugs!
Erin
