Tongue Scared and confused

Hi everyone. My name is Lea. I live In South Australia, and i have Graves Eye Disease. I have had it for over 3 years now and am so so sick of it. I am on the waiting list for eye surgery, and i am really scared. the doctors said that there is a risk of blindness. Has anyone out there had eye surgery and does it help?

Welcome to NT Lea.

I'm sorry for the reason you're here but I hope you'll find the information you need and make some new friends along the way.

There's a forum for autoimmune diseases and that includes Graves disease:

http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum44.html

Maybe the information will be there or someone can answer your question. Take care.

( ... and I can see Australia on the sphere )

Welcome to NT

We do care and want you to feel at home here.

No questions are too silly.

I did have surgery on my eyes when I was younger. I was amazed that there was little to no pain about the eyes after surgery. The IV was the most discomfort I had. Yours may be totally different, I don't know.

There are always risks with any surgery. I do know some are unfortunate and are going to fall into the negative category, (you're usually given a pecentage of succes ratio - and then define "success" ... and at what costs? or secondary complications ) but sometimes surgery is the only way to correct something and we just have to let it happen and have some trust in our surgeon and hope and pray for the best outcome possible. I know you'll do your part.

It's never good to need surgery. Hope all goes well when it finally comes your turn.

Just wanted to say to Neuro Talk. Hope the info Elizabeth gave you will help. I need to read up on your disorder as well...don't know much about it...

My hubby...Olhipie wants to also welcome you to NT. This is a wonderful place to meet people. He spent two years in Australia and really loved it down under. He spent most of his time on the Great Barrier Reef.

Hey Smudge, welcome to NT!

I'm glad you found us. This is a safe, informative and supportive place. Here at NT, people will let you laugh, cry, rant, rave and even throw a good old-fashioned temper tantrum worthy of a two-year-old passed nap time. The only thing they won't let you do is give up.

Cheers

Hi Hon.

I just read your post and was very moved.

Just know that you are not alone. Not by a long shot.

You have found a bunch of new buddies who will hear what you have to say, and will help you with lots of good info.

Just think of yourself as going on a journey. You are at the beginning and you might have some bumps along the way, but you'll meet lots of new and interesting people and you'll discover LOTS OF COOL STUFF.

These forums are amazing and so are the people who come here.

So here's a welcome hug.

Take care, Melody
