Default Returning to NeuroTalk

I hope I am returning to the forum that I use to visit many years ago. The format has changed greatly over the years so I am not sure. I started visiting about 1996 when my son was diagnosed with Tourettes. I found great support and an amazing amount of helpful information.
I am returning to help find information for a family friend. He has 2 yr old with yet undiagnosed neurological problems. She does not walk, has VERY limited speech, other obvious developmental delays. The have just began testing but as of yet no real answers have been given. She is being seen at a very good children's hospital but parent and grandparents are frustrated by lack of any clue about what could be going on. Any suggestions of some directions to look is appreciated. My daughter who has worked in early children development has suggested CP based on her experince of working with young children with special needs. Due to circumstances we strongly suspect shaken baby syndrom, or possibly problems resulting from drug use during pregancy, but are aware of other possibllities.
Again any suggestions would be helpful.

Welcome back to NT!

It's heartbreaking to hear of a young child struggling with developmental issues. If she has good doctors, they should be ordering specialized scans to look for brain damage caused by CP or (God forbid) shaken baby syndrome.

There are also metabolic issues that are sometimes mistaken for neurological problems in small children. Has she has a muscle biopsy?

You are a good soul to be looking out for the welfare of this baby.

Cheers

How was her blood work? Any sign of environmental causes like heavy metal exposure?

It makes my heart ache to think of the poor little dear having to undergo so many tests and procedures. I hope they soon have a definitive diagnosis.

Cheers

They are doing a muscle biopsy this next week. She has had an auditory test and eye test that indicate that she is having neurological issues in those areas, she had a recent MRI, and the preliminary results did not show any obvious issues such as lesions or masses. The thing is she hit all the expected milestones until about 9 months and then she just stopped and some issues seem to have gotten worse in the last couple of weeks. Part of the problem is she has not been in a very stable environment until recently and we are not sure what she was subjected to prior to that.
