Welcome to NT, you've come to a great place for support!
I am sorry to hear of this! It's unbelievable that any Dr would suddenly stop a medication like this! I've been on the Fentanyl patch for over a year and am in the process of titrating off of it. This medication is one of the most powerful and potent there is! May I ask what pain condition you are being treated for? The strongest available duragesic patch is 100mcg.....how is it that you are being prescribed 200mcg every 48 hrs?! The 100's are supposed to last 72 hours. You are on a VERY dangerous dosage if I am comprehending your post correctly. How long have you been on this medication? Being suddenly taken off a med like this will potentially throw your body into complete mayhem! I will communicate with you via private message if you are not comfortable sharing here. I am very concerned Rae |

Hi Missy,
Welcome! I, too, cannot understand how a doctor would have you on such a high dosage pain patch and then just stop it. Will the doctor be substituting the patch for an oral medication to let you down easier? Withdrawal information: Discontinuation of DURAGESIC® To convert patients to another opioid, remove DURAGESIC® and titrate the dose of the new analgesic based upon the patient's report of pain until adequate analgesia has been attained. Upon system removal, 17 hours or more are required for a 50% decrease in serum fentanyl concentrations. Opioid withdrawal symptoms (such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, anxiety, and shivering) are possible in some patients after conversion or dose adjustment. For patients requiring discontinuation of opioids, a gradual downward titration is recommended since it is not known at what dose level the opioid may be discontinued without producing the signs and symptoms of abrupt withdrawal. Good luck and nice to meet you.

That's borderline malpractice... or bad medicine at best.
Go to the ER if you need to. You may find yourself in a detox unit or find some compassion and the ER start titrating you. I'd call that SOB back and educate him, or show up in his office spasing and shaking and see what his patients think. That's awful. If he's the one that prescribed it that way, he should have to deal with the consequences. How old is this doctor? Is there a duck on his door ????? -------- QUACK-QUACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There must be some misunderstanding... I hope he's not in pain management. If I were you and he didn't agree to titrate me down, I would probably call the medical licensure board in your state and report that practice, when you're able!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Try to keep a log of what is happening to you. Or better yet, get a friend to film you. I am worried about you. Please let us know how you're doing and what you're doing about it. This is not something you should be dealing with on your own.
