Default Hello Laudette !

I just want to welcome you to this wonderful forum.....

I'm sorry to hear of your struggles........ I noticed your post right away because I also have had problems with both my legs for 5 years now, but my problems are from pain issues......
When I visited your profile page I noticed you do not have any pain.

Do you have any other symptoms or changes that you've noticed? Only your legs giving out on you? That is a mystery.

Do you have anybody there to help you with your young daughter?
This must be very frightening for you and I am so sorry......

You've found a wonderful place for support however, so maybe that will give you some hope and a better outlook......others will be along who may have ideas for you.
For now, let me give you a hug and let you know that there are many people who care. Hopefully you can begin to get some answers.

Caring
Rae

Hi, just wanted to add my welcome to our community. I'm not going to guess at what might be causing your problem with your legs, because it could be so many things, most probably not serious.

But I do wonder if there is any way you could get a second opinion, see another doctor?

Hello, Laudette... I can imagine how terrifying this can be.

Your post reminds me of someone I knew several years ago, a 40ish man, whose legs did that too.
At first doctors thought it was multiple sclerosis, but with further,
exploration, he was found to have familial periodic paralysis.
This is a defect in the way potassium is used in the muscles and is inherited.

Here is an article to read:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Periodic_paralysis

It is hard to identify because the potassium levels change so quickly. One has to be tested right when the muscles go limp, in order to see it more clearly.
Another article:
http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/1171678-diagnosis

Please discuss this possibility with your doctor(s).

Also, I'd caution you to not self medicate with potassium, as this disorder has 2 versions, and only a doctor can tell you what to do for treatment. If you try it yourself you may make your problem worse.

I also welcome you to a great support group that has helped me. I also suggest you write back with more details if you have them and to maybe get a second opinion. I do have a friend who had something similiar happen to her when her child was small. She had to crawl to his crib to get him. Her legs did something similiar as yours. After many tests, etc., she was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis. I'm not saying that is what you have, just letting you know. Years later she is in remission, her child is in college and all is well! Smile! It will get better. And, remember we are all here and care. Kathie

Default Welcome Laudette

Hi Laudette-

Your story is both frightening and a mystery, all of which I hope you may be able to solve through medical care and participation here! I have constant pain in my legs due to nerve injury courtesy of a serious car wreck. Sometimes I have had the feeling of them giving out on me; thus, I use a cane/wheelchair combination depending on circumstances as I continue to work through the medical regimen in an effort to better control pain and "get my legs back."

I hope your participation here will yield the helps you are seeking!
