Hi there, Welcome to neuro talk it is a wonderful wealth of information but does take a bit of searching and reading. I have segmental spinal myoclonus so I jerk a lot, joke a lot and when all else fails... come up with a new job for myself if I lose the one I currently have due to missing work from my leg cramping up.. Job at top right now is grape smasher at a winery... hear they give employees free tastes of break LOL
God bless and good luck on your journey

well here is what I found under the medical dictionary at top of page.. there is also an article if you "google" disc desication that was just written on June 10, 2010 "Disc Desiccation: Cause & Treatment of Desiccated Discs" might be a good place to start on your journey to find out some answers.
Sorry not more help but I am not familiar with your disease
Main Entry: des·ic·ca·tion
Pronunciation: \ˌdes-i-ˈkā-shən\
Function: noun
: the act or process of desiccating or the state of being or becoming desiccated ; especially : a complete or nearly complete deprivation of moisture (as by vaporization or by evaporation) or of water not chemically combined : dehydration <from the long-wave diathermy machine two distinct currents are obtained which produce desiccation and electrocoagulation respectively—W. H. Schmidt>

Welcome

So sorry you're having problems. You've come to the right place for information. There's so many things to read about.

I have some disc desiccation, actually for many years now. I am stable with that after my epidurals X3 in 2006. I also have been through PT and use LED and infrared light therapy pads if I have a flare.

Desiccation is basically a drying out of the disc or discs. Your discs are soft tissue (meaning not bone), cushion/shock absorbers if you will, for the vertebral (bone) spinal column. Discs are between your vertebrae so you don't rub bone on bone and crush and irritate the nerves and arteries in your spinal column that eixt to supply your extremities.

It is also a degenerating/aging processes. Degeneration can start because of an injury. Smoking dries your discs out (former smoker). Your genes have a lot to do with your body. Repetitive motions can cause degeneration to occur. poor posture can cause problems with your spine.

I hope you find answers and things to help you.

No question is too silly here. So make yourself at home and just jump in when you feel comfortable.

See ya around....
