Default New and looking for help or suggestions

I am an older woman and since I stopped drinking 8 or 9 years ago I have no "crutch" to lean on and find myself so nervous, I jerk my head, neck throat etc all the time.

I now, due to an injury, have a severely injured neck so the twitching is especially hurtful.

Doctor said IF i was this way since my teens it was Tourettes but I do not remember having this problem back then and a psychiatrist I was seeing for medicines (that did no good!) said he did not think I had it

I need to stop this but can't.

Any suggestions would be appreciated and I do not know where this should be posted.

hello Heidi and welcome

if you had Tourette tics as a child you would remember it!! it isnt something you would not have been aware enough of not to remember. Also, there is usually a family history of tics, OCD etc that accompany TS

you may want to consider finding a NUCCA trained chiropractor to look at your neck. They are very skilled and gentle and can often correct neck problems
here is the NUCCA website where you can see what they are about and find a certified NUCCA practitioner in your area (they are usually all covered by insurance) http://www.nucca.org

Good for you that you have quit drinking! If you are still finding it stressful to be without, you may want to try something like cognitive behavioral therapy that can help you develop coping skills and learn to deal with things minus that alcohol crutch

I hope things get better for you soon.

My neck is so severely injured. It WAS fractured long ago and I had bad arthritis in it but my cat tripped me and I fell and guess my head got shook around, injuring it more so now I have to be extremely careful. I cannot go to chiropractors or ? or I can end up paralyzed from the neck down.
