Hello,
I'm new to the Forum. I found the Forum because I was searching for a solution to a medical problem I have. I am somewhat overwhelmed by information I got on other sites and hope to get some answers here. I have Parkinson's disease. On and off over the past several years I have had problems with numbness in the middle toes on my feet. It's strongest in my right foot, which is the same side with the strongest Parkinson's symptoms. In 2001 my family Dr. told me I had Baker's cysts behind both knees. I was also having numbness in the toes. At that time He ordered sonograms to check for blood clots but the tests were negative. I was told by my neurologist (Parkinson's Dr.) the numbness was probably due to pressure on the nerves on the backside of the knee joints, where I have Baker's cysts. An orthopedic specialist told me the swelling in the back of the knee was probably due to debris collected in the sack around the knee joints that was causing irritation. He didn't recommend surgery but said he could give me injections into the joints that might dissolve the debris. However, I didn't get the injections at that time (about a year ago) because the numbness was only occasional. For the past week the numbness has been every day and varies from minor discomfort to a lot of pain. The pain is much greater sitting than it is when I walk. My family Dr. put me on Calcium Citrate a couple of months ago. In one web site I read that toe numbness could be caused by abnormal levels of calcium. Any comments or information on this condition would be greatly appreciated. |
