Confused New LFN Member

Good Early Morning All, New to this community and need some information. I have recently been diagnosed with Large Fiber Neuropathy. I had a bilateral mastectomy in August and am currently undergoing chemo and will have radiation and reconstruction in future months. Since being diagnosed with LFN, the doctor has prescribed Gabapentin which has caused all types of reactions such as lower back pain, diarrhea, dizziness, etc., etc. I have been taking the drug for a little over a week. So far I am not seeing a lot of help for the initial problem. I am scheduled for a EMG next week and intend to take the med until after those results but was curious to find out if long term the drug actually helps or if it is just a bandaid. I was also told that this Dx could be irreversible. Any information would be really helpful.

Welcome to NeuroTalk.

There are supplements you can try to help your damaged cells and mitochondria recover from Chemo.

There are medical studies that suggest acetyl carnitine may help.

Please visit our PN forum and subforum and start reading posts.

Even though you are finished for now with treatment, I'd start the acetyl carnitine. It might have some benefits for you.
Unlike drugs like Neurontin, it might contribute to improvement.
Neurontin only hides symptoms and does nothing for the processes causing them.
