Default lyme treatment

I have in the past two years been struggling with what I just found out was peripheral neuropathy. My Dr has done a lot of blood tests, but refused to do the lyme test. She doesn't think that lyme is the cause because I don't have fatique or swollen joints. I had lyme disease back in 1990, but I found the rash right away and was given 3 weeks of doxicycline. I told her that we shouldn't leave any stone unturned and that I thought we should test me for lyme anyway.
Does anyone here know know if there are times that the treatment doesn't work, and whether or not there's a possibility that I still have lyme? It might help me in findind the cause of my neuropathic symptoms quicker.
Thanks,
Deborah
