My husband had cervical spine surgery the end of May he was fine after
about 3 weeks then physical therapy .... After that session he presented with shooting pain down his arms and it has not gone aways since..... He tried Neurontin but he slept the whole afternoon and since going back to work has been afraid to take it since he is a Tool & Die Maker working with machines. Now the Doctor has prescribed Lyrica what has anyone experienced on this drug??? |

Welcome to NT! You will find aLOT of information and very caring people here. I'm sorry to hear of your husband's struggles. Nerve pain, or neuropathy, is no fun whatsoever. Many people here struggle with variations of this frustrating condition.
I would highly recommend checking out the Peripheral Neuropathy forum here at NT..... here is a direct link to get you there http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/fo...aysprune=&f=20 The good news is that much research has been done and there are many testimonies. Your husband is not alone with this. Neurontin is a cousin of Lyrica and many people here will give good input. I find it very helpful to use the 'search' feature. When you are at the PN forum just click on 'search' at the top of the page, type in the medication and you'll find many posts on this. Also, while in the PN forum, take notice of the section at the very top of the screen called 'PN tips, supplements, etc'. I have battled neuropathy for several years, so I can sure empathize with what you and your husband are going thru. I don't know what I would have done without this forum. A true lifesaver, to say the least. Holler if you need help finding your way around. You've got friends! Caring, Rae ![]() |

Hi, and welcome
Yes, there's lots of good information here. Do use the "SEARCH" feature. If hubby is relating the sharp, shooting pain to PT experience, he may need a new evaluation/MRI to see if there's new issues. Sounds like he got a bad session that's caused nerve "irritation" and I have had that too, with many years of therapy. It's not permanent but certainly painful. It needs treated for what it is, though, and not ignored. Neurontin, well, it helped my symptoms more than any drug I took, but the side effects were troubling. Too bad for that. I nver took Lyrica but I hear it is easier to tolerate. Nerve irritation takes a while to calm down. Maybe light, gentle glides, massages, heat, LED/infrared light pads, time, rest for the irriated nerve once you determine exactly which nerve roots are irritated. There is a specific dermatomal pattern that should tell a good doctor which nerve root it's coming from. It's not screaming pain from nowhere. We get tired of tweaking ourselves, but tweak-tweak till it helps. It can get expensive trying different things. I would suggest if you buy things, really try them and if you don't get the desired relief, return it for a refund. I used 3" balloons in my armpits that helped me a lot. As silly as it sounds, it helped me. I also use pillows and balls to prop my arms up when needed. So you can get relief. Just finding what helps is the biggest challenge. Driving causes my arms to have nerve irritation. Don't know if he notices that makes his worse, but irritates a lot of us here. Hope and pray you both find some peace in your day.
