Red face New and getting scared

My life was going really well until I was concussed this past June 27th. I had finally gotten my Chronic Depression under control and was presented with a new challenge. It's been over two months now and I'm still in pain. My concussion was seemingly minor. The MRI results only showed vascular damage. I'm getting scared because I've always been able to overcome the challenges that have come into my life, but this one seems too big to conquer. I am on effective pain medication, but the thought of being on it for life terrifies me.

I am so glad that I found this site!!!

Default Hi Kattiebell

My origional doctor said something to me about pain meds. that I thought to share with you. He said with cronic pain, it is kinda like having diabetis. You would not take your insolin and feel bad about it, because it makes your life better. The same with pain medications, They are there to really help you have a quality of life. That is the whole point. Do not worry about being on them your whole life. Just take it slow, and realize you need them at this moment and it is OK. I wish you all the best. ginnie ps sorry if I didn't spell correctly, not my stong point for sure.....

My husband had issues after a concussion this winter and spring. My understanding is it takes time, but it will get better. So, although you may need the pain meds now it doesn't mean you'll need them forever. I know how scary it was watching my husband go through this, so I can only imagine how you're feeling. Just take one day at a time and worry about the future once it gets here.

Best wishes,
Rebecca

I'm glad you found this site too. You're already posting on the depression & concussion forums, so clearly you don't need a navigator!

I've had a few concussions but don't remember how long i took pain meds--just that the older I got the longer it was. I stopped jumping horses in my late thirties on doctor's advice.

Haven't you talked with your doctor about these concerns? I'm pretty sure if you do, if you let him/her know how concerned you are, your concerns will be put into a more realistic context than your imagination is stirring up now.
