Default Im new

Im new here...im glad i found this site. sometimes you just need to know your nt the only one goin through things like this...
I have Congenital Hydrocephalus(i.s i have a VP shunt)...ive had it ever since i was 2 days old. and ive had many operations: when i was 2 days old, 12, 18, and at 15, 19 yrs old they jus changed the volume of my shunt cause i was having headaches tht was unbarable.
im now 21, and im stil struggling with it all. i try to learn how to deal with it. but it gets real hard sometimes. and no body takes me seroiusly, they all think i exagerate much. and they only care when i come in the state of vomitting and dizziness, and getting knock outs and that is when im RUSHED to the hospital.....and it gets really frustrating sometimes to see that no body understands what u go thru...
so im glad i came a cross this site

Smile Welcome, stranger.

I'm glad to see that you've already made it over to the Hydrocephalus forum! I hope you start to get some useful feedback. Congratulations on your upcoming marriage, btw, & i can certainly understand your concern.

I'm so sorry that you have to be in a medical emergency before you're taken seriously. Are these friends/family who act as if you exaggerate? Is the health care in this area as state of the art as most other things in your country?

This is a generous, caring place of people who have been thru rough times. I know you will find the kind of support I have, because that is what they do best around here.

Take good care, stranger.

Exclamation Taking on a new journey....

The guy tht im going to gt married to(its kinda like a fixed marriage) so he doesnt know bout my illness, but his mother seems to know jus a little bit. and when the time comes tht i have to tell him, i just hope he wudnt reject me and freak out!because i cause other people alot of suffering and hardship so i cant imagine what i'd put him thru, if it was being with me for a whole life time!!---thts my first problem!

my 2nd problem--ive been studying abroad all my teenage years and even up to now at the age of 21.but i feel like i cant cope any longer so id be goin back again for the millionth time.and ive moved schools 4 times in 10 years cause i cudnt cope with any of it(i end up in the hospital). and now i feel like i DONT KNOW HOW TO FIX IT!
--it might be hard to get a job,(cause i never finish any of my studies)
-- i dont know where to get professional/medical help....(my emotions always effect my illness)and i cant take it anymore, tht after so many years of depression and pain and coping with it all,i want to get some help but i dont know where to start.
--my thought are always "how much longer am i going to burden the ones i love with this illness....can i survive on my own one day?without problems tht im facing everyday?

Heart

So, stranger, is Brunei where you've been studying abroad? Or is it home, where you're returning to get married?

You do have so many problems ahead, & I feel for you. If his mother does know generally of your health status, I hope that means his family will stand behind you. When you say a "fixed marriage," does that mean that--when you became pregnant--the two families decided that you would marry? Although that's not terribly common in the West, it's certainly a way that's been around for a long time.

You say that you "cause other people alot of suffering and hardship." That must weigh heavily on you. Have people told you that? Or are you just assuming it? I don't have any family, but I've got friends who stick with me through it all--hospitalizations, bottomless depressions, weeklong rants, suicide brushes. When I wonder how they can keep coming back that all say I'm worth it. I bet your people would say the same about you. I think my friends are nuts, but im glad they are--& i guess that's part of the mystery of love.

As for your other concerns, let us know where home is & maybe someone on one of the forums may have an idea--at least, about where to start. Take things s-l-o-w.

I'm really glad you found NT. Post on the hydrocephalus forum a lot & get connected there, okay?
