Default Rib Resection

Hi Folks

As means of background, I fell at home last year - down a flight of stairs - and broke ten ribs, punctured my lung, cracked a vertebare, and tore my rotator cuff. I'm a healthy 44yo male. I was in intensive care for 3 weeks because of the lung, had the rotator cuff repaired in Januray 2011, but still have issues with the ribs. Seems two (5 & 6) are intruding in to my lung making even moderately deep breathing uncomfortable.

I think I have a pretty high tolerance for pain, but I would like to have (I think) the ribs resectioned. I am curious if anyone has had a similar procedure and what your thoughts are regarding same.

Thanks in advance!

Hey,

So sorry you're having problems.

It's a painful surgery for TOS. Not sure if that's an option in your case.

Did you talk with a doctor/surgeon about it?

I'm sure you're using a pillow to soften a cough.

Keep asking questions, though. You never know what you'll hear.

Default Quite a Fall!

That was some fall! You poor thing. I'm sorry - I don't have any experience with the rib/lung issue - just wanted you to know how sorry I am for you! I too took a misstep and ended up falling on my right hip and hand. I herniated 2 discs in my lower back and one at C5,6 and tore my rotator cuff. Many surgeries later I am even worse off. It's incredible how one step can change your life in such a huge way! Wanted you to know that I am thinking of you and offering up a prayer for healing for you. Please take care - ElizaJane
