Default ACDF 4-7 scheduled for Feb 1st 2012

Hello
new to forums and just reading through some posts on recovery from acdf. sounds promising and scary. I just had Carpal Tunnel release on my left hand and will have the ACDF on Feb 1st 2012. I know 2 surgery's within a week's time but one is covered under my Workers Comp and the ACDF is not. I am a little scared that the neck fusion recovery will take longer that the 6 weeks that I will be out of the office and i am hoping that i won't be out longer. I guess what I am looking for from this forum is A) what to expect? B) what should I be doing before surgery to get ready for recovery and C) what kind of pain am I looking at?

thank you

Just wanted to add my welcome! Hope all goes well with your upcoming surgery. Has your doctor given you any information on how the recovery will be?

Feel free to cruise around in the forums. There are some pretty amazing folks who hang out here on Neuro Talk.

Default ACDF 3 levels for Feb. 21...any/all advice, please

I have ACDF scheduled for this Tuesday...I am terrified...I would appreciate advice on what to take to the hospital and the best foods to buy after coming home...I live alone and have no family here, so I hope to use this forum for support post-op. Thanks to all who reply.

I feel your apprehension and I don't blame you. Surgery is always a 'scary' thing, but rest assured, there are many folks here who know what you are going thru and they'll be glad to talk you through it. I see you've been posting in the Spinal forum, which is the best option for you.

I notice that when you post, you are tagging your posts on other people's threads. It might be difficult for folks to see your inquiry this way. May I suggest starting a new thread of your own so others can see it easily? It's easy to do....When you log into the Spinal forum, you'll see at the upper left corner an option that says "New Thread". Just click on that and title your thread (just like you titled this post)

I hope this helps, as I'd like you to get as much feedback as possible.
I hope your fear will diminish. Put your trust in your doctor and see it as a means of improvement for your overall quality of life.

Just holler if you have any questions. Everyone is very helpful here and we wish you the best. Please let us know how it goes.

Truly Caring,
Rae
