Sorry to launch a little tirade except I have been dealing with a random illness for the last 10 months and thought a forum could give me some ideas as to what could be wrong.
Last April I travelled to the USA and was struck down quite badly with an illness. I couldn't get out of bed for a week, slept about 18 hours and could hardly eat a morsel. I went to the doctors and they couldn't find a problem. From then I started to feel a little better but my eyes were quite sensitive to light and i felt generally tired and lacklustre. When I returned to Australia in July i tried to make a return to sport, playing in my local football league. After a few games I would overheat and have quite terrible aches and pains. I was sent for blood tests and my ck count came back at a level of over 8000 so they put me in hospital. I was put on an IV drip for a week and released when the count had dropped to about 200. I also had slightly raised liver enzymes 37 or something. They performed a msucle biospy to look for autoimmune problems and myositis however everything came back normal. This all occurred at the back end of August. I have started training with the soccer team again and my ck has jumped from 300 too 700 in about a month. I still am lacklustre, waking pretty groggily with sore eyes for the most part. I was wondering if anyone had any idea as to what could cause this sort of illness? I would gladly appreciate any comments as the doctors have no idea, thinking it could be depression but i dont see how the ck count would effect it. |

Hi and welcome
Were you in an area of known Lyme Disease? (caused by tick bite) If so, try to find a Lyme literate doctor and have testing Have the doctors run blood work to see if there are any other possible antibodies to an infectious agent? I am just hearing of so many "mysterious" illnesses eventually being traced back to some or other microbe that I do wonder if doctors are sometimes missing the obvious. I do hope you find answers that will lead to recovery

Elevated ck count could be for so many reasons.
You sound as if you have some type of Post-Viral Syndrome. I also agree with Chemar. [Doctor's aren't so familiar with Lyme Disease in Australia which can be problematic!] |

FYI if needed.
Just wanted to leave some info. here for you. Today Tonight on the tellie has shown an episode regarding Lyme Disease in Australia. The show is really about people who have caught a Lyme-like illness (Lyme Disease) in Australia itself and talks about how the govt. and the AMA don't recognize that it exists here and medication is hugely expensive... long story. Anyway, if you were in an area of the US where Lyme Disease exists when this illness began, and you would like to investigate more, there is some information available that may be of assistance if it all seems to fit your symptoms and you wish to get more informed assistance. Not sure which State you're living in, but there is a doctor in Bellingen, NSW who is being a bit of a pioneer in getting LD recognized as existing in Australia. He gets his patients tests done overseas and also follows overseas treatment protocol. The name and website of the company doing his testing is also at the bottom of the Today Tonight episode which I'll post below. http://au.news.yahoo.com/today-tonig...-compensation/ Today Tonight Lyme Disease Episode. The doctor's name that I mentioned is in this article. http://www.karlmcmanusfoundation.org.au/ Karl McManus Foundation for Lyme Disease Research and Awareness http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/factshe...e_disease.html NSW Govt Fact Sheet Lyme Disease Quote:
