Default Hey all

Hi I hope nobody minds me saying hello and joining up and posting and I hope I don't bore anyone.

I was a serving police officer in the UK for over 20 years (im 43 now) . Approximately 7yrs ago i disarmed a guy with a firearm who was pointing it at me and was diagnosed with although at that time I didnt really take to counselling. Over the next 2-3 years I was involved in a series of violent incidents as part of work and I was aware the PTSD had changed me making me a lot more insular/cold.

about 18 months ago when i was off duty i was attacked and assaulted being kicked to the head repeatedly (20-30 times) by a group of people. I have had a series of MRI scans and have been diagnosed with Post Concussion Syndrome and PTSD. I suffer from headaches daily maybe once or twice a week they are debilitating meaning its hard to function. Despite the best efforts of medical staff (who have been amazing) the meds merely take the 'edge off' .I'm getting councelling and its been really helpful and i feel my overall mood has certainly improved .

To add the 'cherry on top ' of it all i've been charged in relation to the attack (despite being the victim) and i'm not sure this is the place to discuss that but it seems the 'authorities' don't buy my PTSD and PCS which all my medical practioners feel is laughable.

suffice to say its been the worst 18 months of my life , the attack has cost me my health, possibly my career, my relationship and certainly sometimes my mental well-being. more than anything sometimes i feel like i'm drowning or screaming and nobody is listening. I have real difficulties concentrating and i was an avid reader although now more than a chapter tends to really bring the headaches on. Whilst my sort term memory is at the stage where I have to leave notes on the door etc...

On the PCS I wonder does anyone have some good news about the effects decreasing over time ? Because I have this hope that depsite having had them for so long they may decrease in the future ? I'm on nortriptyline and I was on propanolol but thats recently been changed to pizotifen so i'm switching gradually to that with sumatriptan when its at its worst.

Anyway folks thanks for listening
