HI all,
My name is Brian, I live in the mountains of northern New Mexico USA and I am a life time headache sufferer and concussion victim and I don’t know if they are connected or not. When I was growing up (by the time I was 8) I had had over 100 concussions (no physical abuse) from any minor bump on the head the Dr’s said that the outward swelling that most people would get for me went inward causing pressure on the brain resulting in visual effects, headaches, vomiting, cold sweets, ext. and that the symptoms would go away in about 24hr’s and they did, after that I can remember 3 other concussions caused by a harder impacts to the head. My concern is the memory loss and loss of concentration that I am experiencing now, I have heard about studies on sports athletes and school kids but I have not been able to find out about any studies of long term / old injuries or anything that would help me or that my experience may help others in the future. If anyone has any information or ideas I would appreciate it. |

What Happened: On November 29, 2010, I was walking across the street and was hit by a light rail commuter train. Result was a severe traumatic brain injury and multiple fractures (skull, pelvis, ribs). Total hospital stay was two months, one in ICU followed by an additional month in neuro-rehab. Upon hospital discharge, neurological testing revealed deficits in short term memory, executive functioning, and spatial recognition. Today: Neuropsychological examination five months post-accident indicated a return to normal cognitive functioning, and I returned to work approximately 6 months after the accident. I am grateful to be alive and am looking forward to enjoying the rest of my life. |
