Default Small fiber neuropathy

I was diagnosed in April with peripheral neuropathy in my feet/legs. My new neurologist says I have small fiber neuropathy in my feet/legs. I also have burning/tingling/electric shocks in my hands. neurologist says I can't have SFN in my feet and hands, that I most likely have carpal tunnel. Going in for a EMG/Nerve test on my hands tomorrow.

First, why the different diagnosis?
Second, Why can't I have both in feet & hands?
Third, as long as the medication works, I guess the diagnosis shouldn't matter.

I am on gabapentin. Right now I take 600mg 3x a day, every three days increase by 300mg until I reach 1200mg 3 times a day. Medication isn't working as of yet, and the side effects are awful

Default It's really annoying--

--that a medical professional told you that you can't have small-fiber neruopathy in your feet and hands--the small, unmyelinated fibers that subsume the sensations of pain and temperature are all over the body, wherever there is skin, and small fiber neuropathy can be felt in any part of the body.

Perhaps a second opinion is called for, with a more expert specialist, or at a tertiary center that specializes in neuromuscular conditions?
